MD Lens on Canon EOS / Split Focus Screen?

I just started shooting with my manual focus Minolta MC / MD lenses on my Rebel XT. It has been quite a learning curve. I have shot manual focus and exposure with my SR-T 101, but did not realize how much the XT was doing for me. However, the biggest problem has been focusing at wide apertures. I have had a suggesting to get a split focusing screen. Has anyone used one of these on the rebel XT and does it really improve focusing? Is it worth the expense and will it interfer with using my autofocus lenses; will I have to keep switching the screens back and forth?

Hello, I've used Nikon lenses on my EOS 300, with split screen. For me it's worth, it makes focusing easier.
You don't see anymore the focusing points (well, you see a red blurry light where they should be) but with just 5 on the EOS 300, I usually use the center one.
Did you replace the flange to mount Rokkors on the Canon? I've heard it's the only way...

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to give some thought whether I want to mess with the focusing screen or not, especially if I am going to lose my focus points.

The adaptor that I got has an EOS lens mount on one side and a Minolta flange on the other. The adaptor mounts between the EOS and the Minolta lens. There is a correcting element in the adaptor that allows focus to infinity. Some comments on the net are that these correcting elements are no good, but I have gotten decent results so far.

Google 'Haoda screen' - I have one in my D70 and it does exactly what it's meant to - make focussing easier.

I did a "Buy It Now" through Ebay with Camplus. I got the adaptor from Hong Kong to Phoenix in 11 days.
