True, but in use... it'll probably only be used for .0002% of my photography.

So, what did I miss from leaving coney early on Saturday (besides the 50 drooling old men with cameras : 1 young woman with exposed boobs ratio)?

For me its right before the staging area because everyone that's going to be in the parade kinda has to converge there.

Generally its best to get there early and leave sometime before the parade begins. This year it was a late start I think and we got there way way early.

I used a Nikon slim polarized to kill 1 1/2 stops shooting 100 ISO and later 50 ISO color slides on my P67II that officially is know as "Son of Godzilla." The older Pentax 6x7 that was part of our group got debs on the name "Godzilla."

Anyways this follows the endearment and my reputation of shooting what John calls "Monster Cameras." LOL.

Hope everyone had a good time. I left around 1:30 because I had to pick up a parcel (more P67II gear) from the Hell Gate Post Office which is always an adventure.

Wait until John sees my P67II all pimped out. Hot Shoe Grip. AF500FTZ dedicated flash, new/rare 75/2.8 AL with savage "Tulip" hood. THe weight of this fully blown rig I estimate to be around 6 1/2 pounds. Cant wait to begin night shooting with flash.

"Son of Godzilla" is invading New York. LOL.

The quality did improve drastically at the end. But it did get very warm
 
Indeed, all the parks of the Jamaica Bay Unit of Gateway NRA are special, compelling places to me.
It's obvious to me these National Park Service parks have been perennially underfunded.
But Riis is dramatically improved from its sorry state in the 1970's.

Fortunately having grown up in southeast Queens in the 1960's and 1970's
I am not uncomfortable with places that are slightly "rough around the edges"...

If you haven't read Charles Denson's book "Coney Island, Lost and Found", you should check it out. This thread sent me to the book shelf and I just walked through it again, getting all nostalgic and like that.

Good book, you would enjoy it.
 
Yes -- for those who think of NYC as just tall buildings in Manhattan, this bridge is just a 30 minute bike ride from the Coney Island boardwalk.

Many come to NYC to take photos in Manhattan, but there are incredible vistas accessible by bike and subway. The above can be reached by the A train. I see a lot of walkers as well as riders. These areas are truly beautiful in the spring, especially on rainy days like the one in my other post. This was an especially warm winter in NY, so I rode even in January.

I shot a lot of work in the empty parts of LIC that speak of lonelyness through empty abandoned space over a 3-4 year period.

John and I intend on doing some bike and shooting, but this is not conducive to large groups.

I must say the Verrazano Narrows bridge is my favorite to bicycle across up there. Maybe that is because we tourists get to do it once a year and you locals do not.

Bob,

I biked it 4 times doing the 5 Boro Bike Tour. Kinda scary yet exhilerating doing 50 MPH coasting on a bicycle on the way to Staten Island.
