metering with MF lenses

hey all, taking a little survey here. for those of you with manual focus lenses (i.e., leica m mount) how are you metering? i've been just leaving the camera (new-7) in shutter priority with auto iso and "winging it" by changing the shutter speed and/or aperture on-the-fly. i've been shooting for many years so i'm pretty good about getting in the ballpark but i'm wondering if there is a way to use the meter to get feedback from the camera without having to look at an image on the back to see how on or off i am.

I mostly leave it on aperture priority and use exposure compensation to control the exposure (of course aside from lens aperture). I also turn on the live histogram to see if highlights or shadows are clipping. Oh and I leave the camera on matrix metering that usually does a decent job, but when needed, I use exposure compensation as mentioned. By doing so, I can concentrate more on the composition and focus and get the shot quicker.

Chris, I initially used aperture priority mode, and I still do that occasionally. However, for approximately the last year I've mostly been doing as you do, using shutter priority mode. Nettar

With a manual lens on the NEX, I set a fixed ISO, M-mode and use matrix metering. Ballpark shutter speed follows from the exposure scale. If the speed is too low, I'll up the ISO manually.
