GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure everyone already knows this, but if you don't, look out. They cut off a lot of your negatives. I am using a 28mm lens on my M5. Looking at the picture below, I swear I had included all of the toads on the right side. As you can see, they are cut off. Operator error? M5 viewfinder error? Minilab scanning crop? Well, the negative has a lot more information than the scan. From now on I will have to use the 35mm frame to make sure that important stuff doesn't get cropped out. GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!! 😱

IMHO they are a waste of time, money and CD-Rs.

Low resolution medium compressed JPG is not what I want from my negs so I scan myself.

Could you ask them to rescan? If you show them what information is on the neg and compare it to the scan I would think that they would redo it to include the missing information. If not, I would ask for your money back.

I ran into a similar situation with Costco clipping the prints they make because of the default settings of the Noritsu printer. Not enough that it made a huge difference but I crop and resize carefully in PS and it all got undone in the printing. I don't think I'll be going there for printing anymore.

I'll ask if they can do a full frame scan. I figure it's a format thing. 35mm negs don't fit 4x6 (or whatever they use) proportions exactly. I do need to get my scanner back up and running.

When this has happened to me I've gone back and told them to do it again full frame.

It works.

Well if your 28mm was like mine then the actual image on the neg is (a lot) larger than the 50mm image! Mine is the old symmetric 28mm. The 21mm image is worse. You got a late inverted telephoto 28mm?

The lens is the 28mm F2.8 M-Hexanon. With the M5's .72 viewfinder the whole viewfinder approximates the 28mm FOV.

I will ask the nice lady at CVS if she can scan the full frame. I will also use the 35mm frame to ensure that all of the important things will be present. Minor cropping may be required to tighten things up a bit. I would prefer to do that than see things cut off like the right side Toad with the cowboy hat in my example.

Have you looked at the negative, e.g. if you intended to project in 2x2" mount then some lenses have bigger Images then others, and 2x2" mounts will also cut into the picture.

Dont know the optical construction of the Konica.

Yes, the negative shows a tight but full image of Mr. Cowboy Hat Toad and the right corner of the table. Now I know that the M5 viewfinder and my old tired eyes don't cut things off!

Mine has the image pretty close to sprocket holes and pretty close to overlapping with next frame.

The finder is pretty accurate, a 2x2 slide cuts into the image a lot...

I'd like to hear from socke... what are the parameters for your scans?

What size is the long side... what resolution & compression[less is better] do you want, etc., and what file sizes are you working with?

And, of course, which scanner do you have and what software?
