Minimalist editing software?

I recently bought a film scanner.
My digitized photos will be strictly for email and Web use.
I am now looking for the simplest editing program available.

Here are my requirements:
Windows XP compatible
Only the most basic functions
Clean, uncluttered interface
Inexpensive (or free! 🙂 )

Is there anything out there I might like?
Recommendations appreciated...

I would suggest looking into Picasa. I haven't used it in some time, but remember it being quite easy to use and capable.
For heavier editing, I'd suggest the Gimp. It's much more complicated, much like Photoshop, but can do anything you might want.

Not free but I find ACDSee Pro incredibly easy to use with an excellent cloning function for the dust bunnies ... photoshop scares me!

Picasa3. Free, supports many RAW formats as well as jpg, one-click easy to use. You will never regret it.

IrfanView with the paint dialog add-on or one of the downloaded DSLR processing packages (e.g. Canon's DPP). For my scanned images (film) I use DPP - everything basic except a straightening tool.

The GIMP is my main editing program. Not exactly "minimalist" And so one other suggestion:
Photoscape.

Paintdotnet (http://www.getpaint.net) is an awesome little graphics editor designed specifically for Windows. It's just as full featured as, say, the Gimp, but is much easier to use (especially for someone used to the Windows world).

Jasc Paint Shot Pro 7.04 It is now available free. I have been using PSP 7.04 as my primary Editor for 6 years. Easy to use No Exif 2.2 support. If you do mostly scans or negative, slides, and film it is fantastic.

Totally up to date easy to use Exif 2.2 support and free is Olympus Master 2, You can Download it from the Olympus web site. I love it

Picasa3 Googles newest I use it and Master 2 for all my Digital work now.

another vote for Picasa 3. And the first thing I do when I get the picture up on the edit screen is hit the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button. Completely recaptured a 60 year old faded logging print of 9 loggers on a 10' diameter log.

How minimalist do you want. I would have spent 3 or 4 hours getting the results that Picasa rendered in one button push. The tools are all buttons and sliders, with interesting and surprisingly good results.

As said, also opens many RAW formats.
