Shoot first, think later
Hi, I am trying to locate some post(s) I saw a few months ago around here where someone explained how to clean the CLE shutter dial. I just bought this CLE for parts and it looks like it may actually be alive. The AE seems accurate and only some of the manual speeds are slow, and not all the time. I thought I'd try and see if cleaning under the shutter dial may fix the speeds, before I put it on the shelf to rest. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I did some more searching, it appears that one would require some pretty specialized tools to lift the dial for cleaning, so I think I will have to have a pro look at it.

Maan, I love thouse conversations with myself
. But, just in case anyone is interested, I finally found the CLE repair thread I was looking for which prompted me to give the dial another turn or two. Lo and behold - all manual and AE speeds work! (to my ear at least, will test actual exposures soon). It must have been just some dust / grime under the dial. So it looks like I got me a working CLE with the 40mm Rokkor lens for the price of a parts body (patting myself on the back here)
Ok, time to go get a life and stop talking to myself...

Well, Andy, that now makes two working CLE's up here in the NW valley. It's a wonderful little camera, but you're not allowed to use it to shoot rocks and cactus. It's a street camera.

Hi Gerry, I've been looking for streets with people in AZ for years

I've been a few times under the shutter speed dial of my CLE. I also bought it in non-working condition. It's now working OK in AE, but occasionally I still get some erratic exposures when in manual. It's really not so difficult to open it, but some specialized tools make the job a lot easier. I hope some day I will find a capable repair person on the european continent who can do a full CLA on it.

After talking with Don (DAG) I've decided to ship the CLE to him for cleaning, just in case. I also learned that the contacts actually wear out, which in some cases can only be fixed by replacing them.
