I am considering a new film scanner, but my funds are tight right now. I bought my Diamage Scan Multi in late 1998-99, and have seen work done with it using the new silverfast upgrade software. Originally, I bought it for a PC, and since then have moved to Mac. I would love to hook it up to my powerbook G4 but this scanner is SCSI only, and I guess I would need an adapter for USB or firewire. Minolta once told be it would not work. I have a Powermac G4 700 or so MHZ with 1.5 gig memory and OSX tiger. Will this software give new life to my scanner? I have seen work done with the new software, and that work was recently published in a book. So my thoughts are a new scanner would be a waste of money.

The scanner is fine. If you can solve the SCSI connection problem, I say use it. I'm not fluent in Mac, so I can't help there.

I'm using the same scanner and I think it's great. My primary computer is a G5 tower and although I could get a SCSI adapter card for it, it's quite expensive.
Instead I got a really cheap SCSI card for my older G4 tower and have the G4 networked to the G5 via an ethernet cable.
You could probably pick up an old G4 tower for next to nothing and do the same thing. There used to be SCSI to Firewire adapter but I've never found one that actually works!
