Thanks Huss! Just looked and I see two up with the lenses as a set. Although they both look pretty rough, if I didn't already have the 58mm, I would buy the cleaner of the two of these.

Crazy as it seems these can go for big money with Minolta collectors. Believe me they don't come up very often.
 
The first real camera I fell in love with was my then neighbor's black body SR-T101 which he brought back with him from Vietnam. Took me 30 some odd years to get one (in chrome), but I finally did. I have a 58 1.4 on it. It is a well used example that has a bit of slack in the focus backlash so I don't use it as much as I probably should on my Sony's.
Who is the 'go to' person for getting the lens 'right' these days?
 
Picked up a SRT101 from a dealer and have a question about the meter needle. The PX625 inside the camera seems to be dead, and I can't see the match needle in the viewfinder.

Does the needle disappear from view when the battery is dead, or is something else going on here ?

I just checked my two SRT-101's (batteries are removed) : the viewfinder in each shows both the exposure indicator needle and the follow-up (match) needle. The indicator needle is sitting up at the top right
 
A further problem with my SRT-101. The camera is occasionally misfiring. The mirror goes up, lens stops down and the shutter fires (or at least I think it does, I'll see when I get my negs back). After that though, the mirror and the stop down mechanism don't return. Both return when winding on.

Any ideas ?

On a positive, and despite my problems, I really like the SRT-101. I like the heft of the body, and I like the look of the camera. The MC lenses seem really nice and solidly made, and there's some nice touches that I appreciate. The metal hoods are really nice too.
 
Think I've sorted it. Popped a drop of oil on the covered cog that interfaces with the plastic mirror return cog and it seems to be running fine. It was an intermittent problem so *fingers crossed* it's sorted.
 
Great info. Thanks for sharing. Tank of a camera for nearly all.

Adding the original specified Rokkor Lens hood for all my lenses was fun to do and yes the early hoods are beautiful. I even went as far as to add
SRT Minolta filters to each lens. It completes each one.
 
Despite my problems, quite pleased with the results from the 101 and 55 1.7 MC II
Have a 35mm 2.8 MC I and 58 1.4 MC II (with another 101 attached to it) coming in the post.

I don't seem to be having much luck with my SRT purchases. The second SRT101 and 58 1.4 were listed as tested/working by the seller on etsy. The aperture blades on the lens are frozen wide open and the SRT is missing a bunch of foam including mirror foam.

One day my SRT will come!

The photography magazine advertisements in 1971 made me for a SRT-101 with that sexy 58/1.2 - but at that time there was no way I could afford even the camera body.

I started looking for them in the 1990's, at camera shows, but there was always something wrong - dented, inoperable shutter speed display, etc. From this experience, I wanted to buy one that I could examine beforehand rather than online. In addition to full functionality, I also wanted it to be in excellent cosmetic condition - as if I were buying it in 1971.

Finally, about five years ago I found one and then another. Now I have two nice ones and also that 58/1.2 lens. Worth the wait.
 
I've realized that the SRT is the only SLR I have that works reasonably with my glasses on, thanks to the low vf magnification. As I've written before, I'm otherwise not that fond of it, but this is a real practical advantage for me. The glasses on/off spiel is no fun. I might take it for a serious spin sometime soon.
 
One trend that I have noticed it the the prices for Rokkor manual focus lenses are up. I remember last year you could pick up some MC lenses for less than twenty dollars, now those same lenses go for a lot more. Still they are one of the best bargains in manual focus photography.
