Hi everyone!
So I recently bought an XG-M that was in "unknown" condition. New batteries and the camera came to life, sorta... I had to play with the ON/OFF switch to turn it on, the indicator LED wouldn't blink when the self timer was engaged (self timer itself and battery check function worked). All of the above-mentioned issues have been taken care of by cleaning the contacts and installing new capacitors (duh! it's a Minolta). Two issues remain however. The "M" diode in the viewfinder doesn't always come on when the camera is in manual mode, sometimes it does, sometimes it just flickers. I have a feeling it's the 47uF tantalum cap I still haven't replaced because I didn't have one small enough to fit. But the real problem is the way the shutter operates at speeds from 1/60 down to B. The first curtain only goes like 95% of the way when it opens, seemingly clearing all the path for the light to come in but not hiding inside the slit on the left hand side as it's supposed to (I hope that's clear) and consequently the second curtain cannot close entirely (it wrinkles somewhat). After the cycle is complete I can just see the metal parts of both curtains on the left. When winding the shutter, a significant amount of force is required to "unwrinkle" the second curtain first, then there's a "click" and then it goes. If the shutter is fired at speeds 1/125 and faster the camera operates as it's supposed to, no metal parts of the curtain are visible after the shutter is fired. What might be the cause of this? Perhaps misalignment of the gears underneath the bottom cover? I took some pictures of the shutter curtains and of the gears (I'm not sure how properly aligned gears look). Sorry for the long post and thanks for reading :)
