Missed opportunities

I recall someone named Major Charles Boxer (who can be Googled) who said, "Nothing matters very much, and few things matter at all" - often paraphrased as "most things don't matter."

(This quote has also been attributed to a now long-forgotten British prime minister, Arthur Balfour, but I read it in an essay on the life of Major Boxer. )

It helps to remember those wise words when contemplating one's missed opportunities. In photography as in so many other things.

To which saying I would add, in 90% of missed situations, you can usually return to the scene and reshoot. Maybe not wise words, but I reckon commonsensical.
