I just picked up a 21mm Super Angulon f3.4, which is not compatible with the CL, but was wondering if it is possible to modify the CL to accept the lens? My understanding is that the problem is with the meter arm hitting the rear of the lens, but I would be willing to sacrifice the meter entirely to have a dedicated compact wide angle body. Has anyone tried this? Thanks.

Super angulon

Leica will modify the lens mount of the super angulon , this way the meter arm stays retracted . This is standard modification to use on m5 ,
The cl is probably similar .
Although I am unfamiliar with the cl .

On the M5, at 6-O-Clock in the mount is a pin, if the lens mount has a small slit in the same position, the meter will rise when the shutter is wound. Blocking that slit on the mount will cause the pin in the body to retract, and disengage the meter swing arm.

I'm fairly certain.

The CL, has the cell at top inside, but I wander if the same modification for the M5, works for the CL?

The Minolta CLE uses a metering on the shutter I thnk... And may be a better option for the older wides.

I've read elsewhere that the CL will always drop the meter arm when the shutter is cocked, regardless of lens mounting. The M5 is different. I'm thinking of something more akin to just removing the meter arm, but I don't know if that is possible.

I bet it can be done. Why not?

Shoot a Email to a few Leica repair shops.

I've read about CL's with the meter arms removed before -- just don't recall where. But it's definitely possible, and people have done it (probably for the same reason as you.)
