It's good to see relatives on RFF! I'll have to let Tita know that I saw her online.
I need to get up to Madrid soon. Is your show still on?

Gloria is a relative of yours???
My show is going to be at the Leica Store in Washington, DC., July 22-Sept. 7. And I'm tentatively joining a new gallery in Albuquerque soon.

Beautiful work, some shots are astonishing in others PP gets in the way.
Congrats!
Many thanks -- I went through all the photos I posted here, and honestly I can't see the PP (or 'interpretation' as some might call it) as being any more pronounced or distracting in one shot over another. If you might perchance be referring to the way that the skies might look in some of the shots, that's honestly how they look in New Mexico, and how the 246 (and seemingly the SL) interprets them. The blue skies really do come out looking dark in the files. I admit I've accentuated the clouds a bit (part of the 'performance' of the 'score'), but really no more than they look in real life out there.
If you haven't visited New Mexico, you owe yourself the trip -- if for nothing else, to see the incredible skies and light (New Mexico has over 300 days of sunshine per year, BTW). It is quite unlike any other place I've visited, and I completely understand why it has attracted (and continues to attract) so many artists.

A variation of an earlier photo I posted. Taken with the 246.

Many thanks for your interest and encouragement! I am finding, however, that I have to adjust a number of the photos, as some do look dark on my larger home computer. I will adjust and re-upload them as I have time.
I must say that it's photos like this one that are making me seriously reconsider the SL:

Hi.Vince
What is it about the SL that makes this shot possible or different from the M246?
I like it, but would be interested in why one or the other.

I think it's sharper than what I could get from the 246, and I think the shadow detail is pretty amazing (not that the 246 is any slouch). It handled metering of this tricky lighting situation pretty easily. And although the 246 delivers pretty stellar black and white, the SL seems to deliver pretty nice results too. I like the fact that you can dial the ISO below 320.
Aside from this specific shot, the thing that I keep coming back to is the ease with which I can focus the 0.95 Noctilux lens with the SL. But the big minus for me is the fact that the EVF does not work with my sunglasses in bright sunlight, plus I'm not sure if I could be happy with a camera that strictly had an EVF. But that may be the wave of the future, so I might have to get used to it.
Still wish there was a way I could keep both, but that's not in the financial cards

as a noctilux shooter, id have expected you to mention a bit more about the SL's base ISO and faster shutter. I'd guess between those two you can shoot wide open a good bit more without needing an ND, especially compared to the 246. Really the only downside it would seem is the EVF. Will be interesting to see what the next M camera might have in store.

Thanks Vince
I'm actually surprised it's sharper, although could that be focus. I certainly can appreciate the retention of shadow detail and the highlight rendering, which is pretty spectacular.
Evf 's have obviously come a long way, but I am still convinced they can replace the rf window - they are more slr like in my view, when they good.

Yes being able to shoot at ISO 50 is pretty nice, though using ND filters isn't really a bother to me (I have two -- a dark one, and a really dark one!). There are many nice things about the SL, but there are many nice things about the 246 as well. I'm just not sure if it's worth taking a bit of a financial hit on the 246 (which I have owned for less than a year) just to get a camera that may or may not be better for my particular way of shooting. But being able to consistently nail the focus with the Noctillux at wide apertures is a big plus.

Very funny shot, it takes a second or two but
And have you been driving down the road when taking that shot [#154] or were you and truck standing still?
Fascinating landscape and sky. I might have stopped and just sit there for an hour. I haven't explored the SW at all, I feel like missing out on something serene and spectacular at the same time.

That shot was taken while moving. I know I know - driving and photo-ing.
Serene and spectacular -- a good way to describe New Mexico. Just made reservations to go back out for a week with my wife in a couple of months. Can you tell I like it out there???

I was purely asking in regards to the image quality, as there is no motion blurr visible, at least not in the posted size. So I guess 1/500 or shorter? Anyway dramatic capture.

I shot it at 1/4000th, and it's sharp upon close inspection of the hi-res file.

Many thanks! I think it's a great opportunity, and the gallery is located just off the Plaza in Old Town. The gallery is a nice size, and there are 12 artists in total. There are a couple of other photographers in the gallery, but their work is completely different than mine (colour, very Photo-Shopped), so hopefully there should be something in the gallery that will appeal to various tastes.
