Moskva 5

:) I just received my first roll from a Moskva 5 from Rusfoto and I am impressed. The shot below is from a site I return to frequently, an old junkyard that has many old wrecks. I hope you enjoy. The film was Fuji NPH, 400asa. It doesn't have the contrast that I like, say Reala, but, hey, it was what I had.

Wow!

A Ford 49er two door. A little run down, perhaps, but still a benchmark of industrial design.
Quite appropriate for a Moskva 5.

It's actually a 1950 sedan. The '49 had a chrome rounded "T" handle on the trunk while the '50 had the hood seen in this picture. My brother had a '50 "Business Coupe" and I owned a '49 "Club Coupe". (Wish I still had either one!) The attached picture that I "Googled" shows the rear of a '49 CC.

The hood on the '49 will have "F-O-R-D" spelled out in an arc across the front and a single "bullet" grill. The '50 will have a Ford "shield" or crest on the front of the hood and the same single bullet grill.

The '51 was much gaudier with a double bullet grill and chrome pieces that merged into the tail lights in place of the merging body panel of the '49 & '50. The tail light assembly on the '51 was also a little different...... wider, I believe.

Hah! That's interesting. I thought it looked a bit bare but I put it down to deterioration. I don't think I have ever seen a 50. The 51 is best forgotten...

When I was a kid, the local cab was a '49 Fordor Custom. The other was a prewar de Soto. The 49 was the favourite - it was so modern..

I agree 100% about the '51...... an ugly car if ever there was one. Ahh, but the '49 & '50! My brother got his first and I was able to drive it almost a year in 1959 - 1960 when he was in the Navy and at sea. It had been nosed, decked, gray primered, lowered 2" in the rear and had a rebuilt '53 Merc engine in it. The duel exhause with steel-packed mufflers sounded like a million dollars as they rumbled..... the sound of a flathead mill is something to listen to. His '50 also had overdrive. That was one running piece of machinery.

I later bought a '49 Club Coupe (I was incorrect in my first post as both were Club Coupes) for a total sum of $76.25 and drove it for about 18 months before trading it on a '54 Victoria 2-door hardtop with a moon roof. I didn't have it long when the oil pump went bad and the engine followed.

That '49 was a terriffic car for a teenager. When I bought the '49, it had a problem but I wasn't aware enough to know what to look for. I noticed that the car had a new battery, fuel pump, voltage regulator, generator and carburator. It would splutter and it took my "Uncle" - a professional mechanic - less than 5 minutes to pin-point the problem; a worn rod between the fuel pump and cam-shaft. I could buy a cap for the rod for 95 cents or a new rod for $1.95. I went wild and got the new rod! The car ran as smoothly as an almost new car and I think the previous owner had given up trying to find the problem he didn't tell me about. I don't know if he ever found out how I fixed it but if he did, I hope he kicked himself. He was a County Deputy Sheriff and I knew him well. I think he figured he put one over on me but I had the last laugh.

Lots of good memories in both of those cars.
