Mother of All 50mm Tests

I am in the mood to do a large scale test for 50mm lenses. If you have a specific lens you want to be included in this test, I request that you include payment for return insured shipping. Just send me a pm.


I have the following lenses:

5. Canon 50/1.8

Germany:
7. Summicron rigid first version
8. Summicron Collapsible
9. Elmar 5cm/3.5
10. Zeiss 5cm/2

12. Summar
13. Summarit

If you see missing gaps, you are right. I don't own any modern design lens with high contrast.
I don't want to repeat the same test as before, so your suggestions are requested.

What I see missing in my collection of 50mm lenses is one or more of:

1. Heliar
2. New Leitz lens 50/1.4 50/2 50/2.8
3. Canon 50/1.5 and 50/1.4
4. Nikon 50/1.4
5. ????


Even without any of the above lenses, I will be able to do another batch of tests with my own lenses. Maybe I should include 35mm lenses too. What do you think?

I'd like to see some 50mm slr lenses thrown in the test too, like the common 1.8/50 zuiko and cheaper.

Maybe if you make some reproduceable set of conditions that others could duplicate, you could avoid all the shipping and risk.. Brick wall at 10m wide open, new york times taped to the wall at five meters with camera on tripod with 25 watt bulb for two seconds etc.. tmax 100 in 1:50 rodinal.. that kinda thing.. normal test stuff.

Well, you probably already know that the Heliar 53mm f/1.8 is only found in Contax mount, there are only a few custom-mounted LTM copies.

I would lend you my Summitar, Summarit, Summar (which I think you already own, those three), Summilux pre-asph, Canon 50/1.2, tabbed 50mm Summicron ... but I'd go into a major withdrawal, and they'd have to lock me up 😱

clintock: I could use a brick wall if this is what RFF members would like to see. I have enough photos of my daughters that I don't need any additional test photos of them. I wonder how often we go out and take photos of a brick wall though. I don't like flash use in tests.



And Yes, I could include 50mm SLR lenses, but there is one problem though. I would need a new roll of film for each lens. I don'tmind including a couple of lenses so I sacrifice two rolls of film then. If one brand is chosen, only one roll is used.

Maybe include two of the fine 50mm lenses below:
Zeiss Planar 50mm/1.8 or 50mm/1.4
Nikkor 50mm/1.8 50mm/3.5Micro
Canon 50mm/1.2L or 50mm/1.4
Pentax 50mm/4 macro or 50mm/1.8


Which cheap 50mm lens do you want included? I have a Canon 50mm/1.8. I do not own any Zuiko lenses, and they are not "cheap"lenses but considered to be fine optically.
