Moving to Melbourne

Update

Update

Latest update.

We are still waiting on confirmation of the contract, it's 99% agreed but we need that one%.

Thanks for all your kind advice. I look forward to a RFF Melbourne meet (Or considering Canberra and Brisbane somewhere in the hills).

Beeing a Seakayaker and a skier I think I could land in worse places 😀

Cheers,

Wim

As I write my wife is flying back from Melbourne where she did some exploring and looking for a place to rent. Prices in Melbourne seem over the top so we will be looking beyond the outskirts of the city, maybe Geelong.
She already met her future colleagues and is pleasantly surprised by the general attitude of the people down under.

I am preparing myself by looking at "Priscilla Queen of the Desert" for the umpteenth time 😀

If you are into jazz, there's Bennetts Lane jazz club and Paris Cat ( I think in Brunswick street). Yes Vanbar Carlton is a really nice shop. Melbourne had a Leica Gallery which mysteriously closed. Camera Lane in the CBD has some fine used equipment.

I made it 🙂

After a flight from hell in which Qatar airways rerouted me thru Shanghai (and gave me $$$ enough in damages to buy a X100😀)

We finally meet after a 4 months separation.

We meet again. by wim_b, on Flickr[/IMG]

Now the job hunt can begin, anyone needs a butcher? Or a Seakayak guide?
I do dishes to 🙄

Welcome to Oz, Wim. I'm in Sydney but like Melbourne, and Victoria, a lot. You might try sea kayaking at Wilson's Promontory National Park ("the Prom") - there's a range of accommodation from camping to deluxe cabins at Tidal River - http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/explore/p...amping-and-accommodation/peak-season-bookings and you can also hike to the lighthouse and stay there (book in advance).
Just be aware the sea conditions anywhere on the southern coasts can get treacherous.

Welcome! I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here.
Tasmania is just across Bass Strait from Melbourne, make sure you get over to see it before you go back home. The little island south of the Australian mainland has some of its best bits.
Regards,
Brett
