Hi all,

I have a MP 0.58 from the sn# 292xxxx batch. Occasionally, the meter doesn't come on when I half-press the shutter button (yes, the film is cranked and there are fresh batteries). The meter has been able to "fixe itself" after a random number of frames. This problem happens often but not often enough such that I can go to a dealer to show them. I have no idea how or what I have to do to get the problem to "fix itself" (but of course it comes back some time later). This problem manifests itself w/ two 1.5volt batteries or w/ one 3v battery that Leica gives us with the camera. The camera has never been dropped, abused, etcetc..

The camera is not under warranty anymore and I'm debating to send it to Leica or DAG or Golden Touch but wanted to know if any other RFF member has had this problem w/ their MP. If so, was the fix expensive, complicated?

Thanks
Jack

Mine is in Germany right now for this. Came back from a VF swap and it started. The NJ guy who works on MP's retired, so to Germany it went, at their expense. And I did get a loaner.

Could that not be a contact problem between the battery cap and the body ? one of my old M6 had that issue. Try insterting a piece of food aluminum foil for troubleshooting.

Thanks to all who relied. So it sounds like a uncommonly common problem among MP users.

Goodtimes - I'll try the AL foil but I don't it'll help cause the contacts look ok.

aton, sepiareverb - How much did Solms estimate the fix to be? I assume neither DAG nor Gold Touch can do the work in the USA?

Thanks
Jack
