MP or M7??

I have both. I use the M7 more, but like the MP more. Go figure. If you plan to keep this camera for quite a while and then pass it down, get the MP. Independent repair services can and will repair the MP; they cannot or will not repair the M7. The only other issue I have is operator error - sometimes I forget to turn the M7 on and then say unkind things when it won't fire.

Have lusted after an MP since they came out. But couldn't swing the cash. Just picked up an M2-S and now my MP lust is sated.

I like the timeless look of MP, but M7 is much easier to use. IMHO, the MP is just a better looking luxury version of the M6 (What is the real difference between the two). If I wanted a camera for use, I'd go with M7. If I don't like AE, I'd get a used M6. If I wanted to pass down the camera, M3 is the way to go.

Great choice eric23,Ihave one too and it gets the most use because of its beautiful uncluttered viewfinder.Ive never put a motordrive on mine but if you feel the need cogs wont be stripped or damage done.Happy shooting with what is closer to a real MP than the new one.

Go for the MP for the simple reason that it has no electronics to go bad and will truly last a lifetime. That's why I will never part with my M3.

Not to hijack the post, but...why not get a nice M2 (or M3) for the same reason? With the money you saved you can pick up a nice used Ikon for the AE when you want/need it. Then you also have a backup/second body. That's what I'd probably lean toward for myself. Leaves more money for film and processing, plus you have a second body.

Up to 32s exposures in AE mode and the counter function (999s to ) when in B mode.

Thanks maddoc. I didn't realize the M7 could count, or that the meter was sensitive enough to calculate exposures to 32 seconds. I can see the convenience factor, and I can now understand the term "useful" in that context.

The MP also has a bulb setting, it just doesn't count for you. No AE of course. I think it would be equally useful for long exposures, just not as convenient.
