MS Optics Xenomax 3.5/50 announced; anyone know much?

I did, but not anymore. It was good optically, but not outstanding. The problem with Miyazaki's lenses back then (I had several), and perhaps still, is that his build quality was appalling. In the case of this lens the locking mechanism at full extension was not at all positive.

Perhaps why this one isn't collapsible.

It seems that Miyazaki San's other recent creations like the Sonnatar 50/1 have been greeted with acclaim as well as the 35/1.4--now with a 1.3 version too--, which is appreciated for its imperfections and has likewise grown in demand. The 50 now sells for US$2000+ on the secondary market and its successor, the Sonnetar 50/1.3 is seen as an even better optical design and smaller, albeit slower.

The fragility and uneven QC of these boutique pieces has been spoken about a lot in the past, but has anyone bought the most recent production to see if there's been any improvement?

The original Miyazaki MS-Optical MS-Mode-AH 50/3.5 was a Heliar type lens with 5 elements in 3 groups and the new MS-Optics Xenomax is a Xenotar optical design with 5 elements in 4 groups, so they should not be exactly the same optical design. The new one is advertised as first Xenotar type lens for MS-Optics and it's supposed to have the best optical performance of any Miyazaki lens so far. Image circle is reported to be wide and even compatible with Fuji GFX (if adapted).

I have been recently getting into MS-Optics lenses again and I acquired the new Sonnetar 50/1.3 Slim as well as Apoqualia 35/1.3 Slim II this year. I've been happy with those, using them adapted to my Sony A7C. Previously I've had Super Triplet Perar 28/4 and 24/4 as well as Aporis 135/2.4. I had some mechanical issues with 28/4 and 135/2.4 and after that I cooled off from getting any MS-Optics lenses for a couple of years but I'm warming up to them again. So far my 50/1.3 and 35/1.3 have been working without any issues (although can't really tell if or how much the overall mechanical quality has improved).

I'm thinking about getting the new Xenomax too but I'm still undecided and wouldn't get one immediately anyway (perhaps in 3 weeks time if I decide to get one).
