My 1st Leica, the M2

Very nice photos, Gil ! ... and welcome to the "M2-gang" ! :) I bought one myself just recently, a joy to use.

Cheers,

Gabor

I joined the "M2 gang" over the summer, and could not be happier. Congrats on your recent acquisition -- those are nice photos! I particularly liked the first one. I've got a 40 coming (a Rokkor-M) so I'll be joining you in shooting that focal length on an M2.

Yup she's my daughter and she's used to me taking her pictures. Thanks Bingley I'm glad I got an M2 thinking about buying an M6 but I know the M2/M3 are good mechanical cameras and more robust than the later models.

Hi Noah, just got my V500 2 months ago. I have not tried scaning MF yet but I do have some negs from my former RB67. I'll try when I have the time to do it. Right now I I only do 135 and only tried 1 setting, 2400 dpi 16 bit, grayscale, no USM. Will have to experiment some more. I want to try scaning in color mode then convert in CS3.

Nice camera and nice photos as well, Gil. The M2 really is a wonderful camera.
But what a coincidence: just the other day my wife talked to me about the enchanted kingdom and how we enjoyed the rides there. It has been almost a year to the day we've been there now.

I just have to reply to this one. I bought my first Leica, a M2 in the late middle 60s, 66 or 67, I think. In the photo club I belonged to at the time I was the guy with the M2. It had the 50mm 2.8 and I used that camera for twenty years off and on. It was sitting in a drawer a few years back and had not been out of said drawer for some time and I sold it in a fit of lens lust. Got a nice price for it too. Can't remember for sure which Nikkor I bought but I think it was the 300 f4 which I still have and use quite a bit. Now I am back in the hunt for another M2 to go along with the M7 I am using. Do I regret selling the old guy, well, yes. But in retrospect I think I now use the 300 more and it is a dandy piece of glass. I also shoot a Canon P which is nice but not an M2. John

Hi Yoyo, are you from Philippines? Enchanted Kingdom is very near my home so went there to test my 1st roll with M2.

My wife is from Philippines (San Pedro, Laguna) - we live in Germany. Next march we'll be going there again for some four weeks of vacation. I hope I won't melt in the summer heat. ;)

Hi Gil, congratulations!

My first was also an M2, with a Summicron 35 (6 elements). Still could recall the joy of owning my first Leica and carrying it all around, having to meter every time before the actual shot was done, and changing the film in the street while the mobile phone started to ring.
A few years later I sold the M2 to a friend. I think he still got it in his collection. When I sold it to him, the only thing I asked for was if he ever sell it out again he should ask me before any other potential buyer.
Then another few years passed by I found myself buying back an M2 again. I love everything on an M2. The humble film counter, the simple frame-lines, and unlike the M4, the film lever and self-timer are in metal.
Recently I'm using an M8.2 all the time. But I'm sure there'll come a time when I feel the bug of film again I'll pick out the old pal from the cabinet.
Have fun with your M2!
Eric

Thanks Eric I'm sure you will go back, it's a pull hard to resist.

Well I was a bit worried when I tested the camera dry firing at all speeds. I heard a slight whirring sound at speeds lower than 30 until I read somewhere that this is normal with Leica cloth shutter curtains.

What you hear is the slow speed mechanism,it's a clockwork device that times the slow speed's from 1s to 1/10s.
It's quite normal to hear it..
Best of luck with camera.

Nice set of photos by the way..

Noel
