I've final joined the club.

I have a M6 TTL .72 flying in from the US as I type this (I bought it from a RFF member). I am very excited about owning it.

Next thing is...... which 50mm lens do i go for? i'm thinking a 50mm 2 Summicron. Can anyone tell me what this lens is like, also if anyone is thinking of selling one please drop me a line.

Many thanks
Sam

You would do very well with any of the 50/crons ... from 1st collapsible, to 2nd rigid/DR to 4th tabbed or 5th hooded. All the versions are exceptional performers. The bokeh on this lens is one of my favorites.

The only one I don't have experience with is the 3rd black rigid (perhaps others can chime in on that).

Good luck and congrats on your M6!

Why does it have to be a 50? Is it any coincidence that people have more than one 50, because you can get them cheap and some people decide a 50 isn't the best lens for their style of shooting so they dump them on the used market. Look at what you shoot with in your current camera system and let that dictate what lense you buy as your first lens. My presonal preference is a 21 and 75, but if could only carry one lens I'd go with a 35.

Just one man's opinion,

Sam,

I have a chrome 50mm Summicron and it's my favorite lens. The focus is very smooth, the f-stops clicks are distinct and the results, both b&w and color, are excellent. Many people consider the 35mm lens to be a normal lens on a rf and I personally think the 50mm has a slight tele-photo fov.

You will be very happy with this lens. It is one of the benchmarch lens by which others are judged. Be prepared, you will add additional lenses as time goes by...lol

Hmmm... I started that way too, with a 'cron 50. Sometimes I wonder if I had even bothered with it had I started with a 35mm.

But then, the 50 forced me to think, get close, frame tightly. When I later bought my Hexanon 35, I was ready to think big, and the 50 was my small telephoto.

Hence, steve, it does make sense to start with a 50mm Summicron lens. 🙂

I guess i've shot 35mm on my Bessa and i always thought it was either to wide or to short. 50mm I find is just right, i always seem to pick that len other the 35mm. I'd like my set up to be 28 50 90. But i've got saving to do heehee.
