The canon EOS 1 RS is probably the most important and game changing camera to ever enter motorsports journalism. I have seen formula 1 paddocks during the seasons of 1990 to 1996 with nearly 99% motorsports journalists using canon EOS 1, 1N, RS, HV.

These cameras with the EOS lens system dominated motorsports phototherapy due to their super fast focusing lens. Totally took the entire motorsports journalism market away from nikon. 10 years before this would have not been thought possible as nikon had dominated/owned that market with the F3,F4 and F5.

These canon EOS 1 are true F1 cameras.

I agree with you. I used two of them for many years side by side with two T90 cameras. A dream team for sure.

My favorite Canon FD lenses are:
85/1.2L
50/1.2L
28-50 SSC (not the 28-55)
80-200/4L
500/4.5L

Each of these lenses is awesome.

Fantastic collection, and makes me feel better about some of the gear I've owned or inherited but can't bear part with. Used to work at a camera shop and picked up a lot of old cameras that were otherwise destined to be trashed. All of these are gorgeous: Sometimes I'm drawn to those beautiful Colani-designed curves of the EOS, but I've come to love the industrial ruggedness of Giugiaro's Nikons.

Have you considered the A-1 and FA? Two very innovative models of their time, slotted below pro offerings. First selector dial and first Matrix metering, respectively. I had an A-1 kit picked up at a yard sale for $10; that's one I regret loaning to someone.

Ditto on the D3—barring cinema-quality video output, that was the be-all-end-all DSLR for me.

Since you've shown us your interest in F1 racing and the cameras you've shown us are related to that, maybe the lenses to add to your cabinet ought to be the lenses used for covering F1?
You might need a bigger cabinet, though!

Yes what lens (nikon/canon) both telephoto and regular would have been used in F1 the years 1980 to 2000?

The Canon FD 400mm f/4.5 lived on my F-1N most of the time.

Not really sure. If I were considering looking for those lenses, I'd be thinking about looking a photos of the then current photographers and looking to see what they had on their cameras. Or looking at photos of the races and hoping for camera/lens identification captions.
My absolute guess would be something long-ish and as fast an aperture as the photographer--or their organization--could afford. And, maybe, a good medium zoom?
You might be able to find articles from old photo magazines about "what the pros use for racing coverage" or something similar.

Welcome to the forum.
The rangefinder SLR you need to complete your collection is the Alpa.
The 4,6,and 8 have vertical rangefinders as well as a prism.
Not bad cameras either.

Edit a while later: Well, I was hoping one of you would spot the "deliberate mistake" in which I made out that the Praktina FX was an SLR and a Rangefinder camera in one, but nooo, you didn't! 😛

Okay I know it is from an earlier period but I just put my copy of Grand Prix in the player. First scene is great has some nice old school wrenching and ratcheting. Then a crowd shot where a dude appears to be shooting a Nikkormat is my first guess (Leicaflex SL?). I'll continue watching and report back. This movie has some camera imagery in it. I have an Evel Knievel movie with a scene loaded with Eye-level F2. An old Bruce Lee the same thing. As I recall the F appears in Grand Prix I'll watch and see

Yes pros in 68 used Eye-level F and Rollei tlr...at least in Hollywood on scene productions with F1 as central element of a movie. Also motion picture rig pistol gripped.

i spent many an hour peering through a D2Xs viewfinder. D2Xs and a 20-35 f2.8

and then i had to run one day. with 2 of them and all the accompaniments in a shoulder bag and it went point and shoot/mirrorless after that. it might have been the 80-200 push pull that tipped the scales 😉
