Someone priced the differences out. Since the black limited version comes with all available accessories, I think the difference ended up being about $200...not so unreasonable if you planned on all the bits.

Unfortunately, you take a bath when you sell your existing one used to get the black one. THEN you take it in the shorts.

Fair enough...I got the el cheapo lens hood, but prefer no using it. I like it as small as possible, which is one of its great strengths--esp. when compared with this new XP1 behemoth
David, I say go for it... you like the camera enough and if black will make you happier, why not?

The black edition is indeed wonderful. The lack of black was one reason why I held off from buying the X100 when it first arrived, and I was able to justify the higher cost of the black by counting the cost of the accessories plus a premium for the limited edition nature.
I have hardly handled a silver X100, but someone who owns a silver said that the exposure dial is quite loose and zippy. The exposure dial on the black X100 is very firm and there is no way that it will move by accident.

I finally had a chance to handle an X100 last week, in black no less. Very, very impressive! Smaller than I expected (and a bit small for my preference), but that magnificent VF makes up for it.
They had both silver and black on the shelf, IMO the black is much more becoming on it.
I could see myself with one of these some day!

I saw a black X100 yesterday when I picked up my XP1.
I thought "I just have to get it". It didn't help matters that KEH will be on-site today and tomorrow buying gear, so I could easily trade my silver X100.
Then I opened up the XP1, slapped the 35/1.4 on and played around. After 15 minutes I decided that the X100 would have to go because I wouldn't want to use it anymore. So I went from upgrading to a black X100 to abandoning them altogether in a matter of hours.
After diner reason returned. As great as the XP1 is, I still enjoy the X100. Firmware 1.21 has really improved the X100. The X100 is slightly more stealthy and perfect for situations where silent operation is useful.
Instead of the black X100 I'm going to order the 18/2 XF lens and keep my X100.

I've had mine for a day now and am really enjoying it. I just need to get used to the focus. When everything comes together it really produces some amazing shots. Not to mention it looks amazing in black.

I saw one in Schiller's yesterday. Now I want one. But I need another camera like I need . . . never mind.

Hmm, it does look pretty in black.
Mind you I love the silver, I'd go for silver even at the same price.

Yes, silver; far less intimidating when taking informal portraits.
There was a X-Pro1 on display in Jessops yesterday: somehow felt even lighter in the hand than the X100 —pehaps some subjective effect, expecting bigger and black to be heavy— maybe next year when there's a silver special edition...
My X100 back from Fuji yesterday, overexposure problems hopefully cured, lens replaced, and firmware 1.21 — the focusing seems much improved over the 1.20 firmware, perhaps the lens replacement has contribted to that.

The XP1 definitely feels less dense than the X100.

I'd bet that if the X100 was originally introduced in black, many of us would be clamoring for the more expensive. limited edition silver version. LOL
FWIW, I just bought a newer silver version, and, while I've not handled an older version with the loose exposure comp. dial, my dial seems nice and firm, so I think they may have fixed that in both black and newer silver versions. Of course, I couldn't be sure until I handled a loose version.

You are right. My new one is tighter than the one I got a year ago.

The guy with the loose dial should send it in for warranty repair.

Yeah, I saw that one too! Sorely tempted, but we just moved to a new house. I think I'd better wait...

Two months later I still want the black one at Schillers. Life is short. I wonder what sort of trade I could arrange for my silver X100?

Hey you think the X100's price difference is bad, try finding and affording an original Black Leica M3.
