You already have the hat. Looks quite sporty on you, I must say.

The microchips you speak of are only required in some states - such as California.

And they are not GPS chips, they are RFID chips, which are very different.

They cannot be tracked from space - they only receive power when a 'wand' is passed over them, within inches of the animal.

And when that happens, all it does is power up, and radiate a signal back to the wand - which contains the animals' owner information and so on.

Vets and animal shelters use them to find out to whom animals belong when they are picked up injured or stray. They cannot track the animals from space, they are not GPS units.

They are controversial, I'll give you that - there is some evidence that they may cause skin cancers in the pets they have been implanted in. Which would make them a poor choice for planting in people.

I do look good in a hat. A fez, usually. I did get my stories slightly muddled. I was thinking of the RFID chips, but also of a recent local news story about a carjacked dog. His owner is planning to have him fitted with a tracking device, but that's probably a collar. Still, it's a disturbing trend.

Yes, even in Northern Ireland, if you didn't mind some spotty kid sticking the muzzle of an SA80 through your car window and asking for your drivers license. An estuary-English accent was better currency than a masons handshake at a police speed check in that situation, although, it has to be said, generally not that helpful in South Armagh at that time. 🙂

You realise the spotty kid was as frightened of you as you were of him, the accent was less of an advantage on the Ormeau Road 😉

Actually I was thinking more about the ropey technology that 'safeguarded' us against nuclear war by detecting missile launches and the 'near misses' that faults in these systems caused...

History is defined by the politics of the present day and vice versa.

This is hardly a rational argument, more an insult.

You might as well say that the United States is a nation of chickens, as almost all its inhabitants ran away from somewhere else.

Do you believe that? Because if you don't, you might want to think twice before accusing others of 'running away' from regimes they find distasteful.

You might also care to look at which country provided the most material and military support for the infant United States.
