A quick conversion into B&W. Did it work OK?

I just got a chance to look at this thread Raid. Nice photos. One possible problem, I like the color version. It is nice. But I rather prefer the b/w more. Something about it that grabs my eye more than the color version.

BTW do you know why with a gathering of gull many of them will face the same direction. I have seen them do it in winter and figured they were all reacting to the sun's warmth or something, but that shouldn't count the FL September weather.

My two cents ...

1. Are you applying Leica lens profiles from the menu system to these non-6-bit coded lenses? If not, you may find you'll get better color saturation (and better corner sharpness in some cases) in your shots if you do.

2. On the B&W conversions, you are best off shooting in color RAW DNG and converting them in post. The in-camera monochrom setting provides for PDF files only.

From what you've posted so far it seems the best results are from the Leica 75mm Summilux (nice), 8-Element 35mm Summicron copy (very surprising - wonderful deep blues), and the Zeiss 45mm Planar f/2 M (very sharp and crisp colors).

The others are somewhat flat by comparison.

Relieved to hear Raid. A couple times I was visiting South Florida when powerful hurricanes hit. Many years ago my parents home sustained tremendous damage from one. Stay safe!

We still don’t have power at home. Our car is air conditioned and we charge our phones in the car each day. We got some bags of ice for the freezer today.

I always set the leica to manual lens recognition. I pick a lens close to the lens I am using or same lens. I sometimes use a dng image file and remove the colors.

When we had a derecho blow through here the power was out eight days because we were on the far end of a dead-end stub, so our line got restored last. The stores and restaurants down below us got power back within a day or two so I was able to get items that didn't need cooling for storage, or a quick meal at the fast food places.

Great shots of the heron leaping from the piling. Later views appear to show it is getting used to you being around as it allows you to get closer before launching into the air, especially on the reflection portrait (another great capture). The herons around are so nervous they take off before you even know they are there.

You are right about Herons being sensitive to having people close by, except with fisherman who have buckets of water with small fish. Then, herons may try to inch up to such buckets to quickly grab a fish and fly away.

I pretend that I am ignoring the bird for a while, while prefocusing on a few yards from it. Then I wait until I see the bird preparing for lift-off.
