Hey everyone, just purchased my first Leica on eBay (220121947949), a classic M6 for $680. I mainly use a 28mm lens, so originally I was going to get an M4-p, but decided it was too expensive. Instead, I resolved to buy an M2, since I'd heard I could just use the edges of the viewfinder as framelines for the 28mm. Then I saw this cheap cheap cheap M6 in working order and decided to pounce on it.

I'm 19 years old and a photo major at California College of the Arts, so this is a pretty big purchase for me (not just because I love photography, but also because I'm now dead broke). Well anyway, just glad to be apart of the Leica family or whatever and as soon as I can afford a lens I'll post some photos!

Welcome to M6 land, Adrian. Great deal you got there. There
are a bunch of us in the bay area, BTW.

Now all you need is a 28/3.5 Color Skopar.

Best,

Roland.

Adrian,

I agree with Roland, it looks like you got a great deal. Not only do you have a great camera, but you chose a great art school. If you see someone walking near the campus with a R-D1 or M2 in their hand, be sure to say hi.

ha, that's pretty sweet. i spent my entire freshman year living in that building. that's probably the best photo i've seen of it.

thanks everyone for welcoming me. as far as 28s go i'm trying to decide between the ultron and the biogon.

The Minolta Rokkor-M 28/2.8 is a really nice lens, even with the notorious spotting problem that it has. And they can be fairly cheap (I got mine for $280.)

Sofa King, Congrats on your first Leica M
Hope you enjoy your first M as much as I enjoy mine
(at the age of 33, tho..)

thanks everyone for your input. i've been looking at examples on flickr of photos taken with the biogon, the ultron, and the 28 summicron for the past few days and, while the summicron is my dream, the ultron seems to come closer to the look that i want (dare i say, the leica look?), plus it's about half as expensive.

after that comes a 50 summicron DR!

hi Adrian, welcome to the Leica camp !

Enjoy your first Leica ( yes, you read it well, first, because few will follow ! ), although my first one was at 27 🙂

Make good use of it, a leica sitting on a shelf is as good as a point and shoot : close to nothing 🙂 Use it !
