I just finished scanning in my first test roll from my first M! I decided to make the move from a iif to a M3 because I found a few good deals on an M3 Double Stroke... It was a little bit of an impulse buy/sell decision that happened very quickly (over the span of... 2-3 days I sold my iif and bought an M3...). The M3 came in the mail two days ago... with a hefty $162 custom's clearance and tax bill. Yesterday, a VC 35/2.5 pancake (M-Mount) and LTM-M adapter for my Jupiter 8 came in... so I shot a roll!

All in All, my kit cost me about $1000.
$664 for a relatively nice (a ding on the baseplate, scuff next to the right strap lug, and what looks like a few scratches from a meter on the top plate), recently CLA'd M3DS
$162 customs and tax (grrr.....)
$100 for the 35/2.5 (thanks to a fellow RFFer!)
$90 for that LTM-M adapter

It's a huge upgrade from the iif... that's for sure. Big bright viewfinder, smooth lever, easier loading... I love it! the 35/2.5 delivered some pretty nice results too, much better than I expected!

These are a few test shots I took on a roll of Kodak Gold... While we're loosely on the topic of film... I've been wondering if overexposure brings out the grain in film... or if my lab is just giving me shoddy results. I've sent in a few rolls of portra to my lab and they've mostly come back a lot grainier than from what I see with other people's photos... I'm not sure if it's because of overexposure (my iif had some funky sounding speeds) or if my lab's being lazy. This roll came out okay though! anyway here are the photos:
