My first RF. My First Problem.

Hey folks, I just got my first rangefinder camera today and im proud to be sporting a Yashica GSN. I found the idea of not having shutter settings to be a problem, but reading many reviews, i dont hear many people complaining.

The problem ive come across is that theres mold in my lens. I took a fiew shots of it. Their really cool looking, but id rather not have them there. Any help would be greatly apreciated. Thanks =D

Well it's hard to tell without having the camera in front of me but it looks as though you may be correct (it's fungus not mold). Sorry for the stupid question but you did clean the front element first, right?Ok I'll assume the answer is yes and in that case you gotta pretty much just put a roll through it and see if it shows up in the image at all (it probably WON'T, but you never know) and then just get over it! Most likely the cost of the repair, unless you get the right person, is going to be too much to justify and you might as well just get a new GSN.

Hi Boobbbers and welcome here,

I think it's better to buy another camera and this one can go to your collection. I also have two or three non working cameras for collection and it's also a lot of fun.

So my advice is not waste too much time and energy for a bad working camera ( don't foget the market is full of cheap rangefinders.)

Don't panic! It looks like it's in early stages - take the front element out, clean it in some hot soapy water.

It should be mandatory - anyone who wants to join has to go through at least two cheap Yashica RFs! Bessas and Leicas should not be allowed until after serving a long and painful apprenticeship!

A first post ....... I jumped into RF, Bessa R, 21mm + finder, just did not want to deal with issues like this. I have dealt with seller before, and hope that I don't have to have any fights like this .....

It is unlikely that this will affect your shots. I have heard more than once that placing a lens in a sunny window for a week or two would prevent its spreading, should it still be alive.

Well, maybe the other forum members have the truth: this problem makes no effect on your shots. So before buying another one, just shoot a test roll and finally you will know.

Well i finished my first roll today on the GSN =D. I dont really see any evidence of the fungus effecting the end results. One thing is forsure is i need a lens shade.

But i got another problem, i think the camera might be damaging the film.

I saw these small, but highly noticable dents in the pictures and also these wierd squiggly lines as if there was lint in the photo. Heres an example.

Any Ideas?
