I have both. Not a lot of changes. Mostly cosmetic. LR3 is fine. Also recommended is the Efex Pro plugin for BW if you do a lot of bw conversions.
I will shoot mainly in color. Thanks for the tip, though and for clarifying LR3 vs. LR4.

As for coding of lenses etc. etc. - you don't need to do that, especially when you are shooting with legacy lenses, like we do.
For about three years, I just select a lens and figure what I'm going to shoot with it that day and then think about colors/scenes......
And here's my personal lens settings or ideas about them ~
No matter what I shoot the sharpness is ALWAYS on high.
Crazy colored poppy stuff with an edge, I use my f2/50 HC Nikkor set everything on high and run with it.
Same thing with my Sonnar's just I cut the contrast down to medium high, sometimes bring the color down too.
Old Leica lenses I mostly use the B&W mode and normal to medium high contrast, depends on lens, sometimes I will knock the contrast up to high depends on the look I want. ~ I found I really like the f3.5/35 & 50mm Elmar's the best for shooting really traditional looking Leica Black and White styles - also the f2/50mm Summitar's of any era are great shooters on the M8.
Canon LTM's they shoot with slightly brownish tones, I set them mostly on medium high all around. ~ The f1.8/50mm LTM is a really nice lens on the M8, it gets a bad rap for being a poor performer, but I think that it also "rings true" on a M8 ~ for me it turns out to be a nice medium between the Nikkor Poppiness and the Leica Sharpness
Fun thing is with the M8 you can program stuff as you want it, I really like the M8 alot the crop factor/increase of the 50mm lenses is a pain in the a** cuz all I use are 50's, but as I know you have a Canon f1.5/35 and that's a great lens to use as a "snapshot" sorta lens.
I'd like to see if anyone's been using a M mount f2/40mm C-Summicron on a M8, I heard that it has mounting problems? Do you have one Raid?
I really regret trading away my 1992 Rigid f2/50 finger/focus tab Cron
- it was the BEST Leitz lens I have ever used in my line/style of work.
Well, hope this jibber-jabber may help you!
Happy Shooting!

Hello Tom,
I have too many lenses to get them coded anyways, so I am staying away from coding any. Thanks for your tips on the settings with different lenses. I do have a 40mm Summicron-C, so I can try it on the M8, if it fits.

Ooo I'd love to see how that lens compares to the rigid Cron, they still are affordable, not like the 50's have become :/

Welcome to a new adventure raid and as I said in the other thread enjoy the new camera. Looks like you're well on the way to making great images with it even if it's not film

When I first tried out the Olympus EZp2, i mentioned here that the Summicron C stood out. The images were very sharp on the EP2. This lens is a bargain.

Thank you. I love exploring cameras and lenses. I will try to learn about digital cameras to be able to do better with the M8. I am used to using slow slide film where I aimed at the most appropriate exposure from the start. With the M8, it seems that post processing is needed from what I have read on RFF.

Thank you Boris. I love my film cameras too much to leave them aside now.

Hi Tom, I have one which I use extensively, no problems at all on an M8.2.

It has an M mount, so it should work well on M mount cameras. The 40mm perspective is cropped to 40x 1.33 which is close 53mm.

Be careful with some lenses which will not focus to infinity or collapse safely. A first gen Nokton 35/1.2 for example requires modification.

Why is that so? Is it tne glass that may hit the sensor? I used the collapsible Heliar lenses very carefully on the M8.

The raw conversion is significantly better on LR4 especially at high ISO, well worth the upgrade.

Hello Jaap,
If I stay within ISO 160-320 most of the time, would LR4 still be worth it?

Ahhh, well I had heard it was something, mounting or like a back focus issue?
I'd like to see some samples shot with this lens, are there any threads with it used here at RFF? (links)

Tom,
I will shoot some images for you tomorrow with the Summicron C.
The problem could be the frame lines showing in tne M8 when using this 40mm lens.

Raid, when I upgraded from LR3 to 4.1, LR asks you whether you'd like to upgrade/reprocess the images already in your Lightroom library with the 4.1 algorithms. I noticed an improvement in all images, regardless of ISO. Specifically, better control of both highlight close to the white clipping point, and also shadows. The amount of improvement varied with the image, but it was evident in all images. It was worth my while to revisit old images and make adjustments using the improved controls.
LR4 is quite inexpensive so I'd see no point in getting LR3 - the incremental cost is peanuts. Was LR3 good? Yes. Is LR4.1 a worthwhile upgrade? In my opinion, yes.
With digital I only shoot RAW, to give me the most flexibility in processing and to retain the full data set at capture. Shooting JPG bakes in the camera's time-of-exposure settings for many parameters, like white balance. JPGs are also a lossy format (varying amounts of data compression is used, depending on the amount of detail in the image), whereas RAW is lossless (all image data is retained).

What is the current cost of LR4. You make a convincing case here, Lynn.

Never had any issues with the 40mm summicron-c, and I use it a lot on my M8. I filed the mount down to bring up the 35mm frame lines–you get a bit less than what you see with the frame lines but once you learn it it's ok. I think I've read an old myth that the focus pitch was different on the c lenses versus m lenses–is that what you're thinking of Tom?
Also, about lightroom 4, better get it, as a few of the controls are different enough that it's simpler just to learn the new system now and have one learning curve, rather than learn the old way then have another to figure out when you upgrade in the future. I like LR4, though I do miss the brightness slider.
