I've been lurking around here long enough without being able to post photos. A friend an I bought a used Nikon Coolscan IV this week. So, here's a couple of my first scans. I'd appreciate comments (I'm pretty thick skinned, so be honest).

Thanks Joe. The kid is a friend's daughter from Germany. The other is a church in Florence (hence the curved OOF areas - ceiling arches).

Here's another. This time, it's my wife at the Boboli gardens in Florence.

Nice job. Although the kid photo seems a bit of low contrast scan, but maybe it fits the subject better like this:)

hi Ron,

great pictures and great scans!

I'm also looking for a used Nikon Coolscan V ED, but the prices on *Bay here in Germany are getting so high that you can nearly afford a new one.

BTW, did you use the software delivered with the scanner? I've heard that the Nikon scan software is pretty good and easy to use so that you are not really forced to use SilverFast.

femto,

I used the Nikon Scan 4. It's available via free download from Nikon's website. The interface is ugly and a bit confusing, but results are good. I'm also trying Vuescan's free trial.
