My first web site

Luigi, I think that the site reads better with the text centered on screen. Most people with large high resolution monitors are used to seeing blank spaces on either side. It is a concession to people that still have small low-resolution monitors. On their screens there is not so much blank space on either side. I'd rather look straight ahead than turn my head sideways (just my opinion.)

Thank you, Larry. Yes, I have definitely changed centered. I'm discovering little by little the advanced settings thanks to your suggestions.

I really liked the layout, white with gray text, with your name providing the splash of red! Navigating through the site was easy and your rotating photographs are nicely displayed. I would have liked to been able to click on a photograph and have it pop to a separate page to review, then be able to return to the home page. While on the pop up page the user could have the option of placing the photo in a shopping cart as well.

Please post when you complete building out your site, it would be nice to see the finished product.

Good luck with your future endeavors!

Pros:
I like that the photographs are the main focus.
The name/logo is simple, but nice.
The photos are quite nice.

Cons:
Flash... the nice slideshow on the home page doesn't show up at all on Apple devices (e.g. iPad).

W R I T I N G / W I T H / L I G H T
W R I T I N G / W I T H / S H A D O W

I get that it's a kind of tagline, but I think this would be best maybe above the nav and to the right. I want to click on it. But it doesn't do anything.

Flickr. You want to sell photos, so it doesn't make sense to show photos that don't drive towards that goal. I understand there might be more, but the page is BIG and it will distract potential purchasers. And if it's not good enough to make it into your sales gallery, don't show it.

Nav grouping could be improved to chunk related elements together, like:
HOME
PORTFOLIO
PRINTS
SHOPPING CART
ABOUT
NEWS
LINKS
QUOTES
GUESTBOOK
CONTACT

People are used to seeing Contact on the end, or the shopping cart, but I think it's logical to group it with the portfolios and prints.

All in all, well done. I know that it isn't easy designing within the constraints of a portfolio system, so the hard work is paying off!

Thank you very much, seakayaker1, for your encouragement and advice. In fact, the home page is not interactive. There are the slideshow and text on to the left to improve. Your idea is very interesting, so you can access directly to individual photos, but I still have to learn how to do this...

Thank you segedi for your detailed explanations. I already changed the ordre in the navigation menu. It works better as you said.
Flash: yes, it's off for Apple device (on my iPhone i.e.). What solution? Html5? I don't know...
As Bille says, "writing/with/..." is better below the photos or, as you say, above the nav and to the right (and maybe with a direct link to portfolios). I have to try both solutions...

It’s a beautiful site Luigi, perfectly complementing the captivating power and beauty of your photos.
The site is superb as it is, and although I know that you’ll spend more time on making it as close to perfect as you can, please make sure that you have enough time to take more photos and to get a good night’s sleep! It must be exciting times for you and your family.
Kindest regards,
Anthony

Thank you very much, Anthony, for your great encouragement and your comment in the guestbook which honors me deeply.
Yes, now I need to disconnect the plug from the site a little...
Next week I will be in Paris and I hope I can re-take the camera "en plein air".
All the best.

I have made some changes following your advices.
Still some problems, i.e. the flash gallery on the home page is not visible on iPad to iPhone. Can anyone recommend a solution or an alternative?
I'd like to click on an image and open it in another page, but flash does not allow that either...
Moreover, I added another series; other series will be added in a week or two.
Thank you all.

Update

Update

After more than a month, a little update on my site: the insertion of a new gallery "Paris, France".
I still have some doubts about the resolution of the images on the site: It seems less than the same images loaded on RFF gallery. Maybe I still have to learn something about resizing photos for the web site...
Take a look... Comments and criticism are welcome as always.
Thank you all.
