My first XPan

The XPAN is an outstanding camera, you will be very pleased. Some of the best images I've ever created were made with one. I mostly used it for landscapes, but it can be a really fun (and challenging) street shooter too. The 45mm lens is a phenomenal performer. One suggestion is to have it serviced eventually before the 10 year support period expires. As far as I know, only Hasselblad can service them, or at least my local Hassy authorized service center can't do it.

You've beaten me to it: I seem to be following a similar experimental path to yours recently. This year I've acquired a Zeiss Ikon, a Minolta CLE and a Fuji GA645i as I wanted to try different rangefinders than Leicas, of which I still have a IIIa, M3 and M8 but previously owned M2, M6ttl, M7 and MP. (Don't get me started on lenses...).

I've just recently been thinking about the Xpan as I remembered that it was the Xpan that originally got me interested in rangefinders but I've never owned one.

I notice that they're not as expensive as they used to be and I'm planning on getting one in the new year.

I'm enjoying your Rangefinder Chronicles by the way: I should have a go at something similar.

I look forward to seeing your Xpan results and reading about your thoughts on it.

Thanks for the comments
And thanks Austerby
I do really like the XPan. It's quite different but I have been scanning some more shots I did with it a couple of weeks ago tonight, both colour and black and white, and I'm really pleased with many of the images. I don't feel it will be just a fad - although quite a specialist way of shooting, it can often have a good place. Also, I fond the quality of the scan to be much more like a good medium format shot than a 35mm.

And I hope you do something like Rangefinder Chronicles - I know I would really enjoy to see more of this kind of stuff from other photograhers

Nick
