Don't paint it--powdercoat it. Tough as nails finish on ANY metal, but you have to allow for tolerances for the paint thickness.

hm...I find it interesting that you put the hoop on the shutter trigger side, I was looking at one of those screw on things you can get for canon cameras to hang sideways and decided I didnt want it because it hangs on that side and thats exactly where I dont want the straps and my hand trying to get the shutter at a split moment. But then again im also left handed and tend to hold the camera close by the straps in one hand as I walk around.

Great idea, just a few thoughts on a modification - how about a flat piece of metal with a lug for the strap, like the nikon plastic DSLRs, with a hole for the rewind button and two bent lips that fit against the flat pieces of the bottom plate to stop the camera from moving , like a U channel- this would mean a lot less engineering and a smoother, flatter catch free low profile.

Made in some 316 stainless, brushed and polished to match the chrome of the camera.
Made in brass and painted black for GT GTNs

If you made a oval hole you could have access to either the battery cover or the rewind and use it on either side.

have a countersunk hole for the tripod attachment and use a countersunk head bolt to attach.

What a neat bit of gear, James. If you ever decide to make a small run of them , I`d certainly be interested. Your idea of having a Flat head screw, instead of a hex screw, would improve camera balance when sitting on base. Maybe making attachment full length would also help with balance. Make the next one out of brass and paint it black, just a thought. Anyway a great effort and thanks for showing us. Alan.

Rather than paint, which would chip off, or powder coat which is too thick (and I don't like anyway), check products by Birchwood-Casey. They have a product that chemically turns brass a satin black. It's sold for model railroad and gun smith use. 😎
