my holga is too much "perfect" :-(

i have a HOLGA 120CFN and i was very disappointed after saw first rolls developed...

the holga its too much perfect, it has any vignette (also with 6x6 mask) , any vignette! and also with old negative fuji (ended 2 years ago) any color cast...nothing

it look just a normal (not so sharp) photo from a normal film camera...

very disappointed 🙂 was i so unlucky??:bang:

try it without the 6x6 mask and you will probably get more of the Holga imperfection you are seeking. The 6x6 mask is a new development in the last few years. Holga's came with no mask previously.

Look for an older 120S model. They were the progenitors of that iconic Holga "look". You can still find them on Ebay, for not a lot of money.

Why would you expect a colour cast from the camera anyway? Wouldn't that come from screwing up the film processing afterwards?

Nothing has changed on the more recent units except for the addition of a tripod socket and a bulb setting. Internally they are the same.

But, there is now a 6x6 mask included that you can or cannot use. Using it holds the film flatter and seems to block the small light leaks. It is up to you if you decide if you want the better image quality or not.

yes its just a question of film...but i was surprised that using a 3 years expired fuji film it hasnt any color cast 🙂

i remember i used some slide just after being expired on my eos 1 many years ago and they had a "horrible" color cast also if they were expired only from few months

Makes me feel sorry for having a small fortune of Leica's in my bag while the most inspiring results come from this plastic toy camera...

hhmm i dont think its a good idea...it look much more boring result then a Holga and also overpriced by the austrian company who bought the brand ...like holga when reselled by them cost twice then buying a holga non branded by lomography ;-) anyway they were very smart...

No bigger frame available...but (now) the camera came with two masks :
6x6 and 6x4.5

Just stick your finger behind the 6x6 filmgate and pull it out - it isn't attached to the body by anything but friction. Then your frame will be like 6.1x6.1 and the film won't be held so flat anymore. If you are sure to leave the red window open in bright light, and be sure NOT to tape the sides closed, then you will see the (in)famous Holga color cast.

Try cross processing slide film, colours will be all over the place. I find my Lomo shots somewhat "normal" without cross processing.

Rub your finger generously on your nose. Then use that oil to rub it into the lens (from inside the camera). You can also try to freeze the film, then take it out in the sun.

Try scratching the lens, too. It'll diffuse the light in strong-lit conditions.

There's no way you can get dorkbars on these, though. You're out of luck for that.

Just got one (a 120GN) earlier this week and shot a first roll. It's now being processed and printed. Given that the GN has a glass lens, I'm not really sure what to expect.. It'll probably be too good for the most extreme holga-esque effects, so maybe I'll have to 'upgrade' the lens by putting some vaseline on, poking it with a screwdriver or.. Hey, wait a minute, if the output is as good as Rogier's, then maybe it's useful as a normal camera as well..

Yes-remove the mask. I always shot at max aperture never stop down. Also I hand hold and if there is not enough light I take 2 or three shots on the same frame. Hope that helps.

On older Holgas, the aperture lever indeed doesn't do anything useful without a modification. The aperture lever on the 120GN I bought this week however selects the aperture correctly straight out of the box..
