My Mamiya 7ii keeps trucking...

My Mamiya 7ii has taken a beating over the last few months. First, some of you may recall, it was in a major car accident a nearly went through the window. Afterwards, I did some tests and thought it best to send it off for service (I thought I saw an off square focus place, which turned out to be bad lab scanning...) Anyway, I got it back with a note saying "Free service, camera in perfect working order. We have given you a free replacement 65mm hood to replace the one you have broken." Pretty awesome service, I thought. I shot a wedding with it the next day and the results were spot on. Anyway, at the wedding my assistant picked up my gear bag and the same camera and lens fell lens first onto the concrete and smashed the hood again! I was gutted and thought just to be safe I'd get it looked at again as I hate not thinking I can trust my gear. It fell over a meter so I was expecting something to have been hit out of whack, even only the RF. Again, I got a free lens hood and a clean bill of 100% health.

Who said these cameras are badly made? I've had more problems with my Leicas!

last summer i was switching lenses on my mamiya 7 while standing in a roadside ditch... i thought i had the strap around my neck as per usual, so once i had the lens off i kind of let the body fall. well, it went smack down to the ground, landing right on its face.

thankfully, except for a couple tiny scuffs around the protrusion where the lens mounts, nothing was broken... all i can say is, thank god i didnt have a lens on it at that moment.

I live in New Zelaland, so the agent I sent it to is Panavision, NZ. I was really happy with them, obviously!

As an aside, I'm getting some scans done on a Hassy X5 scanner this week to see how much more detail and less grain aisling it has with Neg film compared to works Nikon 9000 scanner. The guy who owns it reckons if he didn't have to rely of fast turn around he'd be happier supplying clients with 67 and 4x5 scan than 38mp files from his Hassy digi back. I'll believe it when I see it, but it encourages me to keep shooting my Mamiya 7ii and film.

Might even convince me to buy that 50mm after all!

Broke mine due to stupidity and had it repaired. Now I really love my Mamiya 7II. Just wish it wasn't so BIG. Weight is not too bad but the bulk is something else.

Actually I'd love a 500c/m. I was doing stills for a film a few weeks ago where a MF SLR type camera with interchangeable backs would have been perfect. The Mamiya 7 really shines in more candid and quick work, in my opinion. I'd never trade it unfortunately but I am considering getting back into Hasselblad. The lure of the square!

The more I read about these .... Anybody wants to trade his Mamiya 7 for my Hassy 500 C/M kit ? 😀

Certainly could be worse and all whining goes away when I look at my negatives from this camera. Just couldn't resist adding my "to be a perfect camera" kind of note.
