I'm really excited to officially announce my new book "In Significance".
A hardcover 10"x8" book, 90 pages, with 81 of my color 35mm photos.
It should be available in about 2 weeks, it will be sold directly through me.
This book has been in my mind for nearly 4 years, and I have spent the better part of the past 3 months working on it (with help), and I am really happy with how it came out.

Congrats! I really enjoy your photographs. In this case one can judge the book by its cover - great cover :)

I know you do you photozine through Blurb, but it sounds like you went a different way with this one given the direct sales from your website. Will you make a preview available?

I actually did this book through blurb as well, but I don't want to sell through blurb because it will be too expensive. I get a discount if I order at volume and so can make a small profit selling myself.
I will share a few photos of inside the book, but I probably won't have an online preview available.

Are you offering a limited edition series of numbered, signed copies?

I think it would be a good idea.

Stephen

Looks great Colton. Thinking about Stephen's suggestion, perhaps you could make the first edition a limited, signed edition, and subsequent editions unsigned.

Congratulations Colton. I look forward to each of your posts and the possibility of having a hard copy of your work in book form is really exciting.

Nice...who did you use to make it?

Make maybe 50 to 100 signed and numbered limited editions,
at 4x the price?

Put me down for one.

Stephen

I used blurb to make the book. For this book, and the way the timing worked out, using blurb worked the best for my needs. After getting an early draft copy that I didn't really like, I chose a better paper for the final book and it came out really well. The book feels well made, the paper looks and feels very good, and the colors printed quite nicely.

To keep the costs down for the buyer, I am buying the books from blurb myself and then doing all the sales/distribution myself.

It doesn't make sense at this point to me to make the book limited edition.
I will be signing each book though.

Any of your Xpan work in it?

On another note, you can technically take a 100 or so books that were printed and set them up as Limited Edition taking a few select photos and making prints and including them with the book. THis is what Jim Goldberg (Magnum Photos and a few other photographers) does with his self published books all the time (He'll also take paint pens and individualize the photos and messages on them too).
