Be careful of the cheap adapters (yours may be a good one?) I got a cheap one with a lens I bought and it measured .044" thick not .039" like it should be, guess what that will do to your finder adjustment. The Voigtlander adapter is nicely made and the correct thickness.

Enjoy.......!
I got the screw mount from Sweden, but I never use the 28mm CV Ultron - because I can't see the framlines with my glasses on

ErikFive said:Ok thanks man. Have to check it out. Think ill just order one from Voigtlander straight away if the one I have ordered look dodgy.
If it's a copy of a Voigtlander or Leica the only way to tell is to measure it or if an M mount lens is right at infinite and the screw mount lens with the adapter is not you know you've got a problem.

My R-D1 went back - update
My R-D1 went back - update
Today I received a mail from Robert White UK confirming the receipt of my camera, and confirming the sensor is really not straight. Instead of sending it to Epson UK, they asked Epson to visit RW to have a look at that issue - and Epson agreed! This shows, once more, what a fine service RW is offering. And who knows, maybe Epson really got more sensitive to our critiques.
meanwhile, I enjoy using my old M6 again. What a handling! What an accurate rangefinder! And hey, it's full frame!

Same for me with processing and scanning. That's why I shoot less pictures on film than digital (for the same subject I mean). Otherwise I really enjoy the M6 again.
Yes, it looks like there's really something going on at Epson. AFAIK Robert White talked to them seriously about R-D1 issues, at the past Photokina. I think, as reseller of Epson products, they may have more influence than we customers have.

I have received a mail from Robert White UK that Epson will replace my faulty R-D1. They also apologized for the long waiting time. RW will check out the replacement camera before sending it to me, as I had asked for that (and am not willed to receive another lemon). So it's gonna be a xmas without digital camera, but all I hope now is that the replacement camera will fit the expectance.

I am sorry to hear that. At least it is being replaced. Would like to know if Epson will create another digi rf or Zeiss. It will be nice to have a few players in the game. Regardless, shoot film for the time being

Don't have any informations, but my personal believing is that Epson has given up the digital rangefinder project. They got so much bashed (here and elsewhere)...Jorge Torralba said:Would like to know if Epson will create another digi rf or Zeiss. It will be nice to have a few players in the game.
Zeiss is another thing. As some of their ZM lenses, the 35 Biogon for instance, are assumedly designed with sensor-applicability in mind (non-retrofocal design), I believe they must have something in the backhand. The bottleneck of such a project is certainly the sensor (as the M8 issues clearly show). New sensors will lead to new cameras. Time will tell, but I wouldn't expect something in the next time.
Thanks, yes, after half a year of mostly digital shooting, I enjoy the M6 handling (as well as the full frame mode).Jorge Torralba said:Regardless, shoot film for the time being![]()

Good news, lets hope you get a good one in exchange. An R-D1S would be good

Better not - I thought the R-D1s accessorry shoe can not be opened for adjusting the RF?

no, it can't. a small locker needs to be undone before adjustment.

Does anyone have details of how to get to the RD1s adjustment screws, and how to adjust an RD1s (not RD1)? I'm not planning to do this, but I'd like to know it's possible, and how to do it if I had to.

Don't have a R-D1s but taking the topplate off will certainly work.wintoid said:Does anyone have details of how to get to the RD1s adjustment screws, and how to adjust an RD1s (not RD1)? I'm not planning to do this, but I'd like to know it's possible, and how to do it if I had to.

R-D1 replacement - UPDATE
R-D1 replacement - UPDATE
To conclude this thread, I'll quote the mail I've received from Robert White a few days ago:
First, I have to say Robert White really tried everything to help me, and I appreciate their efforts very much.
Now to the facts: Epson are not able to deliver a sample "up to specification" - for me this reads like, Robert White got one sample, but this failed in the alignment and functionality test (as requested by me).
Now this leads to the question should I pay another £150 for the R-D1s just to get the camera I expected when buying the R-D1? The R-D1s has no improvement except another paint and firmware (which is applicable on the R-D1 too). The minus of the R-D1s is the non-removable hotshoe plate, making adjustments much more laborous. And another thing - how long will the R-D1s be aligned - how reliable is it compared to the R-D1? Probably the same.
I'll start another thread about that - "Should I stay or should I go?"...
Concerning the few available refurb R-D1, I fear they're are probably like mine too, most likelly returned, not well functioning samples. I do not recommend any user to buy a "refurb" or "demo" R-D1.

I am emailing you as it appears that Epson are not able to supply a RD-1 camera up to specification. I am very sorry about this, I am very disappointed by the service and the time involved.
After speaking to my manager we are now willing to offer a full refund of your camera or upgrade you to a new RD-1s. [...] At the moment I am out of stock of the RD-1s but hope to see more within a couple of weeks. [...]

...I have just had an Epson shipment and I have a RD-1s camera aside for you. I have checked it fully and confirm that the CCD is mounted straight and the cameras rangefinder and viewfinder are problem free...

Yes, it sucks to initiate the QC by yourself but if you do a good R-D1 is just around the corner.

Didier,
That's great to hear. Jon did the same with my camera before shipping it to me. When I first read your new thread about getting a new replacement for the old lemon I wondered about the replacement's warranty. Does this new RD1s have its own 1yr warranty?

No. But Epson UK was not able to deliver R-D1 which was on specs. Seems they're out of it or have lemons left only. Robert White arranged that I can have a R-D1s in replacement, for a small additional price.
