Hi,

Just wanted to report my camera stolen at my house in a burglury . it breaks my heart because it was new and I can't afford to replace it and I don't even think the insurance will be able to get me a replacement. Makes matters worse knowing a rare Ricoh LTM 28mm 2.8 was attached on it which took me months to source.

Their serial numbers are here:
Body: 102780
Ricoh lens: 00436

I hope they will pop up on the market some day and someone will get arrested.

Cheers,

Tom

That's a real sad loss especially as you have doubts about the insurance cover.
Was there damage to your property as well or was it a more a snatch and grab incident? Hope no one got physically hurt!
I would be feeling very sick in the stomach if something like that happened to me. I really feel fo you over the loss.
Keep us all informed if there is any progress.
Is there anything you can pass onto us all about what we might do to avoid something similar or better precautions we might take?

Report it ASAP... good chance it is at a local pawnshop so the cops might find it there when they check in for stolen goods.

My sympathies... but do read your insurance policy VERY closely. Home contents stolen in a burglary as usually covered by homeowners insurance (up to a certain amount and assuming you do NOT use the equipment professionally) -- at least that's what my policy states.

Ill keep an eye out at work, PM me your mobile number and ill get in touch if it turns up.

(I work at Real Camera in Manchester, and based on your blog your in the UK.)

I'm so sorry to hear this, but looks like you and your family are safe and unharmed. Losing your gear in burglary is extremely frustrating event, but you and your family's safety of course comes before everything else.

Thanks all. It was a very rough evening and morning. Noone was hurt which was a good thing. I just find it sick that someone has my kit. I think the insurance will pay, but they will only get my an 'equivalent digital camera'.
These were very dumb theives, basically they managed to brake in and steal my wireless keyboard and mouse supplied with my tiny revo computer attached to the TV. Quite annoying because now i have to control my media pc with an iphone:( . They also took a broken laptop which was in parts in a box.
If i've learnt anything, it's to have my camera in it's bag all the time rather than sitting on a table.

Will have to see when and if insurance money comes in to see if i can still afford to buy a new RD1. May get a zeiss lens as it's to tiring to go chasing after the ricoh ones. That or just accept the GXR as the next camera. (I did not mention but they also stole my Nokton classic 40mm 1.4)

I was really lucky with my RD1s, several years and not the slightest problem even with heavy use. I'm worried about getting a second hand one which may not be so reliable.

I'm in London and reported this to the police since last night. I will also be personally checking gumtree and ebay on a regular basis to track down this scumbag.

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. 'Had it happen to me in Houston years ago (a still all-too common occurrence there).

Hi chaps,

I was wondering if you could help. I basically need to find a replacement RD1s camera, new or a RD1x camera quote. It's not easy to get these cameras. Would you know a reputable shop that i can get in touch with.
Alternativly, the only 'available' rangefinder I could request a replacement with is the M8 or M8.2 which i'm not 100% enthusiastic about due to hearing so many problems associated with them (water damage, constantly being serviced, bottom half being torn off by a tripod...etc).

Also I'm not keen on getting a second hand battered RD1...

I think the cost of a new RD1s would be similar to a M8 now. Basically i need to weigh out my options.

Cheers,

Tom

shops selling RD1(s)?

shops selling RD1(s)?

Hi Chaps,

Just been on the phone with the insurance who want to replace my RD1s with a nikon d3000. This is very annoying as it's not at all what i want, also it does not reflect the cost loss at all. I was wondering if anyone knew any stores in the UK that had the RD1 for sale second hand, regardless of condition so i could contact them for a quotation.

Cheers,

Tom

Can't help but can see the problem.
Insurance company can't do a like for like replacement, and you don't have a cash value on which to negotiate.
Vexing to say the least.
You could see what completed ebay deals have resulted in - not that I've looked to see if there are any.

That type of camera and lens combo may make its way to eBay. Very few snapshooters would buy it from a thief and a camera shop or pawnshop would ask too many questions from the seller, I would think.

Ffordes photographic had a body for £999 recently. I would imagine the shop would write you a note to say how much the camera is worth for the insurance company, would that work?
