I've got a v4 35 Summicron CLA'd by DAG. Came back with the indexing aligned and without the front end falling off, but with a tiny little "hop" when focusing around 4 feet. Whatever, annoying but I said **** it, not sending it back again. Something weird has been happening lately though that I can't let slide. I've never noticed this when out shooting street because I'm generally zone focusing and if I'm not it's not like I'm changing the focus a ton because I'm very selective about what I shoot.
Anyway.
When I'm watching films, I have a habit of holding my m6 and adjusting the aperture and focus rings. Dunno why. What's so weird though is that after not very long at all, the focus ring will start squeaking once getting close to infinity. It's really loud. But if I take the lens off and then focus with it, the squeak is gone, just like that. Remount the lens, no squeak.
I know it sounds trivial but I have had terrible luck with this lens, it took three trips back and forth to DAG to get it fixed properly, and I'm wondering if this is something to be concerned about. Is it an indication of an ensuing problem?
This lens rules but I swear if this turns into something.. Maybe it's nothing. I'm just kinda perplexed. Maybe I should just cut my losses and sell it before I like lightly bump the hood on something and have the glue holding it together fail. Actually I can't even sell it if I have to put "loud squeaky focus ring" in the description. God I can't even handle the idea of going through the nightmare of selling it and then buying another lens like a v3 that will 110% with my luck need a CLA and I'm going without a setup for several months again. Nope.
Edit: Remounted it and now it still squeaks loudly when focusing. $2,000, three tries to fix it, the front of the lens literally held together by glue, and now loud irritating squeaky focus ring. Go Leica.
Anyway.
