I was talking to someone the other day who was in London recently, with a film camera, and apparently security or the like got a hold of him, and took the camera, opened it (wince), removed the film (double wince), and tore it up.

I think they really only carried the attitude of photography being helpful in the heat of the moment. When they learned that these people had pictures and maps and such of the tube system...well.

Unfortunately, London, and Madrid for that matter, have already experienced the horror of what carnage can be "reaped" by malevolent forces bent on committing unspeakable crimes upon innocents simply using a form of mass transport. Just "blokes" like you an me trying to get to work so as to pay the bills.

I try to balance the carnage I saw at the WTC with some notiion of "understanding" how those who have not experienced the fury of hatred can think that WE are the problem!

Some of the posters here do not seem to be able to understand that bombs are indiscrimanatory. The good and bad, the young and old, the male and female etc. are equally struck down. For no other reason but because they were simply going about their daily business!

Quite frankly, it is getting harder and harder to be so understanding of those that seem to have to take an "anachist" view that freedom must be totally "unfettered"!

I wonder what will now happen to the good people of Denmark because of these "cartoon" protests which get more violent each day!

I sure hope that their transit police are being extra viligent!

Kevin, that's just sick! Not you taking this pic but the other guy taking the pic he did! What on earth is the fun in that? People like that should be forced to see every single episode of Ophra in one sitting. Or perhaps Geraldo. Flippin' bastards ruin it for everyone.

In Japan camera phones were required by law to make a noise when a picture was taken for the very same reason. Unfortunately, digital cameras can still be made silent.

Oh that is not my pic! A friend sent me the link the other day and it proves that the true "stealth" cameras and not necessarily our rangefinders.

My guess is that this is a car show somewhere in Italy. Most italian dudes have a different kind of brain. This one obviously belongs to the majority.

Years ago my former girlfriend was walking down a street somewhere in Italy, together with a female friend of hers, and the italian driving his car decided it would be appropriate to just drive up on the sidewalk and prey on them.

It boggles the mind.

Went to the Udvar Hazy Museum last week with my "User" S3. We went to the Imax theater to see "Roving Mars", which was terrific. I used the S3 to take some snaps of the screen, and they came out amazingly well.

When Nina saw them, she informed me that I had broken the rules. They had announced that photography was not allowed in the Theater. I answered "No, they announced no FLASH photography allowed." I wonder how many tourists were dissappointed that their flash pictures of the movie did not come out before the Museum banned it inside the theater.

I'm going to hockey Friday night...we get roudy and I'm taking the camera to take a few shots. It's good and bright so I'm taking two lenses with me: the Jupiter-12 and the Jupiter-3 (hopefully, anyway). I may stick the Canon 50 just in case I get worried about the J-3, but I doubt that a lens coming from Brian would have any focusing problems. 😉

I would ALWAYS check a new lens before trusting it to anything important. Especially lenses that I adjust...

Trip to Mars: Use trusted lens.
Trip to Movie about Mars, can be replaced.

Hah. I'll take both 50's. I'll just be itching to use the J-3...hearing so much about that lens and then finally getting one is exciting. Now I need a J-8 again...but that'll come after my collapsible.

I'm going to collect as many 50's as the other nuts here...I'm in good company at least. 😀

So the British, who have a lot more experience with domestic carnage than we do, seem to have the opposite attitude. (Just don't photograph children in the U.K.)

Not quite. Im from the UK and all i ever read about is people who have their cameras confiscated by police/security. One example i can remember off the top of my head is an MP (who is a keen photographer)at a party meeting (cant think of the correct term) whos camera was confiscated. The MP asked the security guard not delete the pics and said "OK". When he got his camera back all the images were gone.

I could go on forever but its hard to read all the stories without going a bit mad

All because of Osama? Geez....

No wonder there are so many poms around. Here in Vancouver, you see a zillion people with cameras all the time; and I've never seen anyone be relieved of their toy. Well, okay. There's the mall thing. 😎

i live in serbia and on every train station you will have problems when taking photos. my wife had problem with taking photo of a tram station also???!!! can you believe that

That is very weird. I live in London and use the Tube every day. I've always brought my camera around with me, and I've used it on the Tube platforms and in stations, and no one has ever stopped me or even blinked an eye. I've noticed that the private security guards are most neurotic in private shopping malls and in areas like Canary Wharf, but confiscating someone's camera and ripping the film out sounds a tad drastic!

Whereas, if you are male and have your camera anywhere near children.....

Victoria's Secrets I hope 😀

Actually, I was taking photos of my daughter inside a mall. A police officer stopped me and told me that there is a war on terror ... etc. I put my terror machine
(Leica M3) away.

I suggest the sentence be changed to Oprah and DR PHIL. There's a greater chance that Dr. Phil could instill sensitivity in someone than Geraldo.

reaction? OK, your an idiot.

It's astonishing how little it takes to provoke a cop in this country, and I speak from
experience. I can describe in graphic detail what a six second blast of pepper spray,
inches from my face, can do.

I don't care what sort of reaction I get from this--all cops are sociopaths.
