The Naylor Collection auction of photographic artifacts was conducted a couple of weeks ago. I noticed many, many items on ebay. I'm wondering if any RFF members picked up anything?

I picked up a Leica IIIf. (It's my first Leica, and I'm excited.) It's a red dial with self timer, and an Elmar 5cm f3,5 lens.

It hasn't arrived yet from the auction house, due to a snafu with payment (they don't accept Paypal.)

The camera was allegedly "used by" Leopold Godowsky, one of the co-inventors of the eventual Kodachrome process, along with Leopold Mannes. I'm not sure exactly what is meant by the term "used by." I believe Jack Naylor acquired many of the personal notes, and equipment belonging to Godowsky and Mannes (God and Man). I'm not sure this camera was owned by Godowsky, or simply used by him at some point.

Anyway, I'm excited about my purchase, as I said, and can hardly wait for its arrival. Any advice about this equipment? By the way, I intend to use the stuff. I'm a photographer, not a collector, even if I don't photograph as much as I'd like.

Here's the only photo I have of it (from the Guernsey's auction). I can't tell much about it. The lighting is a bit flat.

no, really. here it is.

I guess I was attempting to upload a file too large. I'm still learning about posting photos.

A clean IIIf RD ST with lens is a good thing to own, regardless of who else might have owned/used it.

While you still have the chance, it would be nice to run a roll of Kodachrome through it and say, "Thanks, Leopold!"

I assume you mean before all the Kodachrome is gone. Yes, I'm looking forward to shooting some of it, alongh with some Tri-X, or T-Max or HP5.
