Hello everyone,
Where can I find theG2 databack?
I have the silver G2 body.
Thanx in advance for any info

Regards
Em

Very hard to find. I finally tracked down around 4 of these - one was brand new in the box - never been used - the seller was in Singapore and was asking $650 for it - shipped to the USA. I also found a couple others in exce++ condition - no scratches - looked like new, but had been used and had no box. These were going for $425 and $450. The last one was in a more beat up condition and had indications of use on the back LCD (scratches on metal door, etc.) and the seller was asking for $375. I bought one of the exc ++ condition one's and am extremely happy with the purchase. This dateback is truly a very useful tool - especially if you scan in your images like I do on my coolscan 5000.

Not sure I follow. Why? Do you make scan adjustements based on shutterspeed or exposure?

I have one, but had to buy it with a G2 body to get it. :)

Issy, would you like to sell yours? (if black, that is)

Andy - I have been looking for a black databack FOREVER and I do not believe they exist. If you find a source let me know after you get yours!

All of the databacks I have seen on black G2s were "frankensteined" with the champagne colored backs.

Good luck,

Kent

Kent, thanks. I think when I find a source, I will first buy two and then post the link here :)) I might just paint one in the meantime, should be interesting as I know nothing about painting on metal.

I have actually thought of painting one myself though I have thus far chickened out. If you end up doing it pop an image up of your finished product.

Mine is chrome. Planning to keep it for right now; if I sell it, it will be because I'm getting out of the system (which I have nearly done a couple of times... the sharpenss always brings me back). I promise to give RFF first nod before it goes to the bay.

I was lucky... I found a chrome G2 with the back included for a very reasonable price (within the past month).

No... I don't make scan adjustments based on the information the databack provides. However, I do use the information to try and get a better picture the next time. It is helpful to me in that aspect. Plus, I love the fact that the first two sheets have all the information and the date and time are printed between frames. I hated having to see the date on the orint itself - ruined the whole picture for me. I am glad contax decided to go this route on their GD-2 and D-10 databacks.

Prints actually tell me more on how I need to scan in the image thatn anything else. The shop where I get my negatives developed mark up the CYAN, YELLOW, and MAGENTA settings that had to be changed and the exposure latitude adjustments that had to be made on the back of the print. This is more helpful than anything else - especially if I want a jump start on getting the negative scanned in.

The databack I have is black and I wish I had the chrome as my body is chrome. But not too much I can do about that now.

Would you consider swapping for a chrome databack? I need the black one but I bet I can find a chrome one fairly easily (relatively speaking).

This one has some indication of rough use right next to the right side of the door. I am curious how much it will go for.

To the poster above, I would like to keep the back I have just becuase I paid a huge amount for it - almost as much as what I paid for the G2 body. If I come across another black GD-2, will email.

Did Contax ever make a body case that would fit the G2 with the back installed?
I have never seen one.

Ouch, that's right... it looks pretty nasty. Hope it's still functional.

I agree....That's not a bad deal for a G2 Back - especially when the lowest I could find them for was in the $400 range.

I wish I could get a black G2 body for $250 ... maybe it might happen :)

What's so special about this back?

What's so special about this back?

In case you were wondering what the back outputs:

First and last line are when the roll was loaded and unloaded (date and hour). Each other line is exposure info (estimated aperture), mode, and any compensation data, listed in groups of 5 frames. The cost is two frames of film on the roll if you select this mode; if not, it prints between frames.

Pretty neat.
