I sent out my M6TTL 0.85 for a CLA and the MP viewfinder upgrade. I also had the 75 and 135 framelines masked. It took a while, but when I finally got it back, there is one issue, and I need to know if this is normal, or if I need to insist that it's fixed at no extra charge to me.

The LED for the light meter is no painfully bright. When I depress the shutter halfway to activate it, the person having their photo taken can see the VF light up from across the room. The light is in my eye like a laser pointer, and makes it hard to see much in the frame, and is hard to use for long as it gives me a headache. It's so bright that I can activate the LED, turn the camera around and project the red dot on the wall across the room like a laser pointer!

Now, I'm assuming this has nothing to do with the MP upgrade. I'm assuming that MPs are NOT like this. My best guess is (and I don't know much about the mechanical insides of cameras) that there is some kind of dampener that makes the brightness better, like it used to be, that the person doing the upgrade forgot to put in. Is that correct?

Any help or advice is appreciated!

that does not sound normal if it is that bright. I don't know if it is a mechanical or electrical issue there... may be either.

Well that's what I thought at first too...I'm guessing I should send it back to have it re-worked, but I wanted to be sure.

that doesn't sound right, I would call them and tell them about the problem maybe they
left something off on it. For the price they charge to fix those camera's it should work
better than that. I had a M3 send to them to get a CLA and the the viewfinder window
came back with a big blot on it, back it went.

Okay, the general consensus seems to be that it's not right and I should send it back. I will do so, as soon as I hear back from the tech who worked on it. I haven't been entirely satisfied with what I have gotten from DAG in the past, and will be looking for a different person to handle my Leicas in the future. Seems many people use Sherry Krauter...advice?

It is significantly brighter than before. Previously, I noticed the light and used it well for metering, but now it's hard to see the frame it's so bright.

When I say you can see it from the front, I mean it lights up like a freaking Christmas tree. When I'm shooting in the streets, I prefer not to resemble a lighthouse 😀

I've used a lot of cameras, and have never had this issue before. I'm upset since I have been eagerly waiting for the M6's return for the past few months, but I figured with the MP upgrade I'd be better off; I had some issues with flare when I was shooting on vacation earlier this spring.
