need help

I took both of these pictures while on vacation in mexico with a fuji gs 645 folder and I don't know why why one has what looks like sun flare and the other don't.

Do you use a lens hood?

I used that camera and the flare was minimal, but, avoiding direct sun is best under any circumstances with any camera, unless you want the flare.

That strikes me as a surprising amount of flare. I agree with Frank... in the first shot the light is from the rear over your right shoulder, and in the second the sun is high and a little right of center. Isn't the camera's door on the right also, where it might serve to shade the lens a bit? If you have a filter on the lens that could encourage flare... If you have your shapely assistant carry a parasol to shade the camera as you shoot, that should solve the flare issue. 😀

Check the bellows. You may have a hole in it.

I will be holding auditions for shapley assistants as soon as possible. In the meantime is there a sun hood made for the fuji folder. and yes the door is on the right and probably does shade that side a little. thanks for the suggestions. I did get a couble good photos i'll try to post soon.

There is a Fuji hood for your camera. BUt the bad news is - it's hard to find and it can be a little pricey. Maybe you can find a 3rd party hood with the same filter thread size .Check Ebay and Keh.com. Good luck.
