Neoprene tubing

A long shot I know but wondered if anyone might be able to identify this and/or know a source. It's a type of rubber tubing that is used in a Contax S2 as a light seal instead of the more usual foam. I think it's neoprene but I'm no expert. It's quite soft and stretchy and slightly shiny. It's difficult to stick it to anything. It's about 1.5mm OD and 0.5mm ID. I found some silicone tubing of the same size and tried that but it's too hard and won't give enough.

I don't think Neoprene is made into that small tubes. Rubber or silicone will be right, but it may be hard to locate that very specific type. Try voice calling online sellers of similar seals or tubes - in these cases it is usually better to talk to a salesman than to try and figure out by yourself where in a catalogue of 30,000 items in at least ten sizes or options each it might be hidden (the more so as web shops don't browse anywhere as fast as paper catalogues used to do)...

My guess is that the material is EPDM, which is a synthetic rubber widely used in automotive seal applications and would fit your description.

I don't know where you might source that in small tubes, but perhaps it will help to include in your search terms.

You might consider using a low Durometer (soft) o-ring cord, available from industrial supply houses.

At first thought I wondered why they used tubing instead of solid foam, but it makes sense in that it has more give when crushed, and probably returns to its original shape easier.

Rick. That does look close. I'll check that out for sure. I don't mind buying from the US.

I think the reason it was used is because the S2 was claimed to have improved sealing against dust and moisture. I assume the rubber is better for that. The seals I took out are permanently distorted so I don't think they need to spring back into shape. Unfortunately one was damaged hence my need to replace it.
