i just went through all 20 pages in this section and did not see anything about Nepal. We are going in June and spending time in Katmandu and then a short trek. June is start of monsoon which will make things interesting.

Anyone have experience which might be relevant?

was there in November, my photo album from trip here.

I did go Tibet as well (overland bus trips sold in Kathmandu). it was winter period in Himalayas, not as warm as in June, less tourists. truly unique experience, and will definitely want to see it again. very interesting photography wise, lot of history and traditions, exiting food. traffic in Kathmandu is chaotic, like many Indian cities, but after a while its "normal" :p have fun!

Hi rpilottx, not sure what kind of tips you are interested in, but I recall arriving at the airport and seeing hundreds of taxi drivers pressed against the glass door outside the airport clamouring to take you into the main tourist area of town, Thamel. Rather than get mobbed, my friend and I opted to use the transport desk inside the airport :)

If you're like me, the water there will take some getting used to. For the first couple of days at least, you might want to play it safe and stick to drinking hot tea (plain and without milk). Once your body has gotten used to it, i.e. no tummy aches or diarrhoea, you can then get adventurous with food and drink.

I guess the other poster covered the rest. Don't expect speedy service and don't be in a rush. Always leave a buffer for unexpected events, especially when trekking. At the end of our trek, my friend and I waited about 2 days for the plane to fly out of the Manang area. Each day, we'd walk about 3 hours to the airport, only to find that the plane wasn't coming that day. Despite the delay, we hardly minded. The scenery is gorgeous. In fact, I dream of returning all the time!

Have a good trip and do share your photos :)

Kathmandu is safe city, if one excludes dangers from traffic :) before arriving to airport, try contact hotel you're staying and ask them pickup service.

Take anti-biotics.

Hard to charge batteries away from city.

RF is perfect.

Buy nepali phrase book and read up on culture and current pol sit---NOW! 50 words of nepali and they will love you. Otherwise they will just be polite.

Get ready for the best scenery on earth.

You should get some dramatic weather shots!

And when the weather's bad use your nepali to charm some fantastic portraits and social shots.

Well, my family and I will be visiting friends-American ex-pats who have lived on and off in Nepal for 8 years. He is a physician and runs a large public health NGO so things like antibiotics are easily available.

We are planning at least one trek-perhaps Jomsom which is about 10000 feet and in the rain shadow. And my daughter and wife are very interested in the cultural side of Nepal.

I am figuring either one or two M bodies, 21/35/90 and perhaps a 50. And the M's are meterless so batteries are not a concern. Am thinking 400 ISO color print as the monsoon makes things dark. And perhaps some Ektar 100 for the sunny days. I recently gave my daughter the S90 so I am back to film only.

May stop in Great Britain for a couple days on the layover to hit the London museums.
