Hello,

I have 4 Nikon RF ,and never found a body cap ...
Even the SP set is sold without body cap.
I can't find one on ebay. I don't mind if it's not a Nikon one .
It's just to protect the body from the dust in my bag when there is no lens on .
Thank you for helping me
Claude

They are handy if you want to carry your RF in a small bag, but there is a much bigger issue, since the rear caps on the 50 simply will not stay on in a bag.2 Hours Ago 05:24

The cap I made for my 50 from the Zero/Woolite bottle cap stays on very well.

And when I finish making the body cap for my S3, I'll explain how to make that as well.

Oh, and I also made a lens backcap for my Nikkor 85 f2. Its made from the liner of a plastic a child-proof prescription bottle and the cap from a Dry-Idea roll-on deoderant bottle. Even has the three little flanges, and works like a champ.

These milky white covers turn out to be great diffusors absolutely perfect for incident light metering when put in front of the lens.
Same way the white 39mm body caps that come with the Voigtlander LTM-M adapters do.. With the added advantage that they click straight into the lens front 39mm filter thread..

A Kodak plastic film cannister lid is the right size for a body cap.

I punch a hole in it and attach a small machine screw and nut to use as a handle to remove it.

Otherwise it fits on so well that it can't be removed without setting the shutter on T and poking it out from the other side.

Thank you all for your friendly advices
Too bad ,Stephen just ship me yesterday three lenses...Too late
But the cover of my razor shave gel ,after cutting it ,fit perfectly.
I'm gonna buy three of them in advance....
So,thanks again for the tips.

The kodak plastic can cover is great too
I had no screw ,so I made two holes and put a little strap in it,, in place of the screw
And it works perfectly
Thanks Vince ,I can save the 3 cans of gel shave....

I believe the cap displayed above on the black SP is a late version, the earlier versions are very crude looking and do not have any kind of engravings!
Does anyone have a picture of one?

The metal shallow rear cap doesn't have any engravings, although I have seen them marked <E.P>

I have seen Metal body caps without engravings...may be 3rd party?
Does anyone have a picture?

I found another picture, this one looks well used, as you can see the cap comes with 3 slits and just slips on.

Did these ever come in plastic? or bakelite?

Stephen Gandy (of Camera Quest fame) has Voigtlander body caps that are better than the vintage Nikon rangefinder body caps because they have a bayonet lug lock and a knurled outer edge. These body caps are no longer being manufactured, but Stephen still has them in stock. His price is $25.00

Years ago I bought one from Gandy (The Head Bartender here) and I use it with my Contax IIa. I should have bought two as they are very nice. Seems to me the price has gone up since they were discontinued.

I cut off the bottow part of a plastic cup that came with a laundry deterent and it works just right for my SP (covers the whole mouth, tight but easy to be taken off).
