Is it me or does anyone else with the latest 35 summilux have a hard time keeping the hood on? That darn hood is very sensitive and the slightest nudge knocks it off. :bang:

Jorge, are you talking about the 35 summilux ASPH? early version came with a hood with just tabs on the side. This one fell off easily. Later versions (maybe starting in 1997 when I got mine) have the hood with added locking/tension ring rather than just the tabs. I believe this is current and is compatible with the earlier lens. the hood has a little ring with a dot and an arrow on it. So, yes it is the later version. It still falls off. I like bayonet mount hoods the best. I will tell Leica I am going Zeiss because their hoods stay on 🙂

You would think that Leica would learn about that problem by now. I had the same problem with the reversible hood on th 73mm f/1.9 Hektor from the 1930s. I suspect that the friction fit is great when they leave the factory, but soon loosen up to the point that they won't stay in place.

I have the latest 35 lux asph, and have never had a problem with the hood falling off. Play around with the locking mechanism and with sliding the hood on and off to make sure you're attaching/locking the hood correctly. In fact, a lot of times I pick my lens up with body attached by the hood! 😀

Leica Hood #12589 with locking ring for my 35 Summilux ASPH -- it has never fallen off my camera. Very positive and tight lock. It also works well on the current 28mm Elmarit-M (and perhaps the 28mm Summicron-M). Smaller than what shipped with it.

I have the 35mm Summicron which I believe uses the same mechanism. Never had a problem.

I remember my summicron had the 2 tabs you pushed in to slip the hood on. NEVER a problem with that one.

I have the 35 Summilux ASPH and took one look at the hood that came with it and I put it back in the box - horrible thing... 🙁 I use a simple round 46mm wide hood from eBay dealer heavystar which is fine - this lens doesn't exactly flare... Below is a quick'n'dirty pic of my hood.

Got the 35 cron with square hood, sounds like the same fit. No problems at all. Might just be a dodgy hood Jorge.

Here's what you do Jorge- make sure you push the tabs in while sliding the hood on, and that the hood is fully pushed on, and that the rotating locking ring is on the loose setting before sliding it on. Then, twist the ring locked. I've actually messed up not having the hood on right before. Good luck.
Figured it out. The problems was that I was not pushing the hood on hard enough to make it goe into its position. Just like visoneer said. It looked like it was but I was just shy of the locking tabs falling into place. I guess this happened because I never like forcing something into place especially when it cost so much. None the less. I am a happy camper now.

I also use the Heavystar 46mm wide. Well made and will take physical impact better than the rectangular plastic hood.

To my chagrin I have found that the heavystar solution doesn't work on the Leica 24/2.8 ASPH. Unfortunately the original Leica hood has to be used on that lens. 🙁

There is one major advantage of the platic hood over the metal ones. If you bang the lens on the hood. with the plastic one, the hood will flex and absorb most of the shock. With the metal hood, it will transfer the force to the lens itself. Something to keep in mind.
