New 50mm f1.1

Am I the only person who thinks the sample images look good? Especially on film?

To my eyes, they look better than those produced by the Canon 50mm f1.2, my only fast lens. I chose the Canon over the Voigtlander because of the size and the price. The Canon is quite short actually.

But this Chinese lens seems to have better ergonomics than both the Voigtlander and the Canon. It's just painful to look at the size of Voigtlander and even the smaller Canon is NOT comfortable to use due to its wide focus ring and long focus throw. The 0.7m minimum focus distance makes it unique and seals the deal for me. The only thing I don't like is the clickless aperture ring, but at least it has an aperture ring that turns in the correct way unlike some Sonnar copies. And it's not something that can't be changed in the future.

Frankly when you get the picture, nobody would care if you made it with a Chinese lens or a German lens.

For the price I don't even care if the lens is poorly made. If it breaks down or attracts fungus, I'll just buy another one, for the price of a CLA.

I dunno, seeing who can take the smallest profit may bankrupt them and then where would we be? It means less to spend on research and so on. Worse still, a lot of firms rely on sales to pay for their service after the sale and so on. So we end up with what?

Regards, David

Profit is for capitalists, my good comrade. They don't need no freakin' capitalists in the land of the Great Wall, LOL. This lens is for the people. Power to the people!

I suspect a lot here also regularly look at l-camera forum ; many more samples from myself and others over there at https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/273821-7artisans-50mm-f11-leica-m-mount/page-4

What I like most about this lens is that it is a f1.1 Leica M mount lens you might just buy for the heck of it. A bit like buying a Porsche 911 for the price of a Toyota Corolla. Who cares if it pulls to one side or leaks oil? Just enjoy the ride.

I got mine today, The focus seemed off, When I focused on infinity my rangefinder patch went way past the mark, I adjusted it until infinity was dead on, I'll load up a test roll in the morning.

The images look great from it. If I had an extra $400 I'd get one then shoot the hell out of it and post wide open images to a certain list I belong to and lie to all the Leica sycophants that I got a Noctilux. They'd drool anyways just because I said so. I can do that to some extent with my Nikon glass and people will believe me because the internet is the internet. People want to believe in their $9000 lens.

Thanks! I'm using a M6. I'm not sure how that makes a difference.
I wouldn't trust the ebay seller to make any adjustments.
Do you think it's best that I adjust for near focus?
Thanks

Once I get some discretionary funds. This thing is mine.

I actually like the ability to adjust focus. That's really a brilliant idea on the part of these 7 artisans 🙂 I would really like my Canon 50/1.4 on the M9 and M240, but it front focuses a tad. I will adjust the lens, but its a "tedious" operation involving disassembly, replacing shims (hopefully), reassembly, testing, and repeating the process until the shim thickness is correct. Or, if there isn't a sufficiently thick original shim in the lens, I'm looking at machining and then shim adjustment. Jeez! Or, I could just buy a $350 DJ-Optical/7artisans lens and follow the instructions. So much easier 🙂 So yeah, I'll end up with this lens. Fairly soon I think.

I am assuming you are using m4s, and on Taobao site, the seller acknowledge that the lens needs adjustment before using on m4s...
