New 50mm f1.1

Hi Raid

I was surprised by the build ie it felt substantial and the focusing smooth and nicely damped.

The copy I used ( courtesy of Jem Kline , Real Camera) was silver and looked every inch the part.

I`d need more time to think about how it performed .... only knocked off a few quick shots at 1.2 and 1.1.

+1. Got my silver one on Mon. What a substantial, dense little chunk of glass. The only Leica lens i own where the mount is fixed with Torx screws. Calibrated mine yesterday, that is a bit of a Pita due to the rf cam construction and short throw.

Anyways, so far so good, hopefully will get to shoot it on the week-end.

Roland.

Just wait till they decide to make a rangefinder for it..at 1/10 the price of the Leica M..I would love to see that..lol..
Leica needs a little competition..

Two quick shots with a Sony A7s.

Those pics look fabulous, Michael.

Very nice and pleasant separation of the main subject to the background.

Very tempting to get the one calibrated for the M4.

Thanks very much...
I guess its main competition is with the Voitlander 50/1.1 ?

I look at it as a completely different lens, unique really as a Zunow replica (extended Sonnar). Will be hard to beat my Nokton as I use it (as a high performance landscape lens). Your pics show a great 3D separation, Michael.

I have similar feelings about ordering me such a lens. It will give a different lens to use. Maybe, identifying its imperfections can be exploited for the good?

I have been waiting and waiting fir the lens to arrive from China. Still no lens delivery. This is frustrating.

Sorry to hear that, and hope you get your lens soon. 🙂 Ended up buying mine from Amazon and paying an extra $10 for expedited shipping ($379 total). Shipped from Singapore and arrived in six calendar days to the US west coast, and that's including two days processing time before it even got to the carrier.

For everyone who shoots film, take a look at the Flickr group Andy created. One of the members there has posted quite a few photos taken on a M3.

And if flare bothers you, look for a lens hood, as the lens flares very easily....at least on a a7rii.

Roland.

The wide open shots look a lot like those from the Zunow I had. Looks like more contrast and a little less swirl, but with the same stretched sonnar funk.

I could get it from Vienna (it's on the bay) but they ask 499 Euros for it...
I guess the lens is a bargain but will get expensive.
