I'm happy to announce my first self published book: Postcards from the Mohawk Valley. I did it through Blurb, and I was pretty pleased with the whole process. Great to have these tools to use now. All of the images were shot with Fuji rangefinders on Kodak and Ilford film.

Nice work! I'm thinking about doing one of these blurb books as well. How long did you take to put it together and did you use their software or upload PDF? Any other tips?

Thanks for checking it out! I designed it in Indesign and uploaded it as a PDF. They have templates for that and they worked well. I also used the CMYK profile they provide. That did seem to help, the b&w is consistent throughout and the printing matches up pretty well with what I saw on screen. I made scans from the negs. How long did it take? Hard to say: shooting over 4 years, editing over and over, scanning took a while, but the design and layout process really only took about 3 weeks.

I grew up in Johnstown and Fonda, there's a gorgeous view of the valley/river from my parents house up on Switzer Hill Rd outside of Fonda, see all the way down to Big Nose/Little Nose.... and the sun sets right over the river...
This is the time of year I really miss being back east though. Fall was always my favorite season.

Thanks everybody! Paul, the talk really was Holly's show and she was terrific, very interesting. I just gabbed for a few minutes. The book will be there for a while longer, so if you get a chance I'd love to hear your opinion on the real thing. AS220 has set up the small room in the gallery as a book space and that will continue so good news for book and printed matter people. Hope you are feeling better.
Brian-- I bet that view is fantastic, the Hudson valley gets all the hype but the Mohawk has some beautiful overlooks as well.
best,
erik

That's some really nice work.
I think I might purchase a copy too when I get paid later this month, my kind of viewpoint.
And you have give me another reason why I should go back to the states next year

I like maybe a couple of images, but most look rather boring to me. Dont mean to hurt your feelings, I suppose it's just not my style of photography. But I'm happy to hear that you are happy with it - thats what really counts!
